You can order them at catfishconnection.com but likely will not get them by this weekend so use egg sinkers or torpedos and that will do the job. Tie em up carolina style with the swivel to stop it and you will be fine. Use 4 ounce to 6 ounce weights.

On behave of West Coast Cat Masters and Team760 we would like to thank all the participants that showed up for the event for the Imperial Valley Catfish tournament. There were a lot of familiar faces and new ones. Thanks goes out to Todd for his tremendous effort in getting the tournament exposed to the public all over the Imperial Valley. Also thanks for getting the T shirts taken care of. Thanks also go to Chris for his help and participation in the event. It feels good when you have dependable help in the running of an event. That is basically the key point in making an event successful when you have dependable people that show when say they will show to help out and hater free with one basic objective in mind – having an successful event. I have been fortunate to have great help over the last year with my events, which is a big plus from the years previous.

Thanks goes out to Farmer Boys for their coupon package in helping to sponsor the event – they have great food and is based in the inland empire and desert areas for those who may not know. Also thanks goes out to the Department of Fish and Game for monitoring and giving us the necessary permit in carrying out the event. They were on top of their game this weekend and were very helpful with the quagga mussel pamphlets and in ensuring that participants were within regulations when it came to fishing this event.

Participants fished all over the Imperial Valley and its series of canals. This area is full of canals and areas. It was a pleasure to learn about some of these waters and it will be an area that I will fish in the future. The fees for the event was reasonable which was 10 dollars for the top stringer, 10 dollars for the single biggest flathead, and 10 dollars for the kids division. All in fun to promote the sport itself and not get over redundant with fees. The top areas that produced the best flatheads was the – Alamo Canal, which put out the 1st place fish. The All American Canal – which put out the 2nd and 3rd place fish. And the Vail/Rockwood area that produced the best numbers of nice flatheads including a magnificent 5 fish stringer of double digit to 20 pound flats and smaller ones as well. The Coachella canal was the hot canal for the channels. Plus Sunbeam lake produced well for some that fished it.

41 participants fished in the event all together and their was plenty more spectators that showed up to cheer their friends and family along. All together this made for a successful event and something that will be talked about for a long time as we were the first ones to put on an All Imperial Valley catfish tournament. This will definitely lead to bigger venues and more Imperial Valley tournaments in the future. Stay tuned for future details regarding such.

Now for the catches that was made.

More pics coming as I get them in from people.

The tournament also sparked the beginning of our T shirts for WCCM. They look really nice and we have them in black and white. We will have more at the next event and can also do special made t shirts with your name in the front if you pre order. If you want to get the shirts get a hold of me or team760 and we will get you on deck. Cost of shirts are $22. Proceeds go to the club.

Thanks bluehunter and everyone else who made the event a reality. Hopefully we can do it again soon. I thought I’d give a small account of my time at the event. I started out at about 2 in the afternoon with a friend of mine who was too broke to enter the tournament haha... We went out to the highline just north of the veil to track down some channels. However we got side tracked and ended up bass fishing. We landed a dozen or so bass to about 3lbs on live red horses. About an hour before sun down I hit a pond out there and scored some bluegills on meal worms. With the sun going down we headed back to Brawley and hit a few other alternative bait spots along the way haha. Well after grabbing a lil beer and some food we headed out to one of my favorite spots along the Alamo around the rest stop before calipat. I got several good runs and landed two flats 9 and 15lbs. I knew that wasn’t going to be good enough so I let them go. So I packed up and went out to another good spot out by the Salton Sea. However there were already two people fishing there. At this point it was 1am and I was getting a little worried so I moved on to the 30 and over hole. It a very narrow spot that maybe fits two poles and is full of snags that’s why it was the last resort haha. Anyways i tossed out my line and got a good run after about 10 min. I hooked up and felt it was pretty heavy but it spit the hook. So I rebaited and tried again. So after 30 mins or so bendo a long run and a hook up. Normally I fish two beef sticks with Penn gto bait casters and 80lb powerpro. However one of them threw a fit so I was using my tiger rod with 30lb big game. This made for an interesting fight. This part of the Alamo is extremely narrow, very swift and full of snags. It took about 20 mins too finesse the fish up the bank and out of every snag you can imagine. That’s why I like 80lb power pro for the Alamo. You can tow a boat with that stuff haha. So after that it was about a 40lber I packed up and went home because I knew it was most likely going to be a winner.

That is a great story Ryan. Those fat flats love the snags. I will be at the Alamo next month for an outting. We will likely have another IV event in the fall maybe Labor Day weekend or after. By that time I will have some experience out in the IV and will get in the money next time. LOL. Congrats on your flat that was a fatty. The last flat that big in my tournament was 3 years ago by Riverbud when he caught his 48 on the Colorado river. Great going again.

Thanks Joe. I will be heading down that was quite often now. Will start some ventures after the flatmasters event next month so I will give you a buzz and we can sweep in on those flats. Plus we plan on doing another Imperial Valley gig in the early fall so this area is on the radar now. Talk to you soon.

Thanks for the props. All I had to do was get the right people in the mix to help out and than everything else would be dandy. Thanks to team760 and also the participants for making the events a success like they have been. This has been the best year yet and the events will keep getting better as long as we have great people showing up.
