My bro in law got a private charter on the Mission Belle out of Point Loma leaving on Sat morning for some 3/4 to the Coronado Islands, and just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect? Only been on 1 other trip and that was a 1/2 thru Newport Landing.. Just curious what I could expect to catch or what they will more than likely target... Any help is greatly appricated!!!!

I will probably be passing by there this weekend. There has been some spots of yellowtail and barracuda showing but not really biting. Like Vic said- rockfish will probably be your sack fillers.

Eastcoaster,

I would still bring something the stuff to yo-yo YT with, and something light to flyline (at a minimum there are bonito out there though cattleboats don't seem to be making the effort to target them), along with the usual assortment of weights for codding.

I enjoyed the times relatively recently that I've gone on the "new" Mission Belle with that husband & wife team. Nice people & low key.

Take one of each pole if you have them. But definetly take a conventional reel setup for the rockfish. I was out there on Tuesday, I went out of the Seaforth on 3/4 day to the Coronado Islands. When we were targeting the rockfish we had to drop our lines down 250feet on 8oz weights. We only 14 people on boat and we had a blast. If anybody else in here is interested in going I recommend go during the week, there is hardly anybody on the seaforth and from my understanding they go regardless the amount of people on the boat. Good luck in the slaying....

Mission Belle didn't go out today but the Point Loma did. Had a decent count on the sand bass. 52 sand bass for 10 anglers. Probally some healthy ones too. Most of the time it's been rockfishing, though. Either way, it's probally all off the bottom.

So, I'd bring a 15, 20, and 25 for sure. Maybe a 30 or 40 (if you have it) to yo-yo just in case those yellows pop up again. Unless, conditions change, you'll be fishing the bottom. With that, make sure you have some heavier wieghts to get the bait down. Bring some heavy jigs/lures in case you want to experiment.

Karen works the deck. So, if your not sure about anything, hit her up. She's always helpful, friendly and could probally supply you with some basic tackle if your short.

Capt. Steve is always on the look out for them yellows. So, be ready for anything. Any given day could change things up. You never know until your out there. Give a dropper loop a try. Might get lucky and catch one of those bruiser homeguards.

Always fun fishing the nados....you should have a good time no matter what! Good luck!

Take some Yo Yo (Salas 6x and/or 6x jr cuz u never know..), Surface Iron, Shrimp Flies and/or ganions (you're fishing in mexico so I believe you can use 3 hooks), 8-16 oz weights since it's been a bit windy lately, 25, 30, 40 lb. test (and if it's a small reel, better load it with some spectra), size 1 (for whitefish) to 3/0 hooks. You should be good with that.
