Went fishin’ on Sunday to where? Where else other than Lake Mission Viejo. I was at the lake on Tuesday with my brother and we caught our limits. Simon texted me while I was at Canyon Lake for a wedding and was wondering if I was going fishing? I said let’s go otherwise I would have fished Canyon Lake on Sunday for bass. It wasn’t known if a boat rental would have been available at LMV due to all of the boats being spruced up. We get to the lake and no boat rentals were available other than rowboats. Why go home it’s 6am! Rowboats are $4.00 per hour!! What a joke!! Well! We had to work for our 4 fish limits on Sunday. Simon had to work for it anyway. I had to work for a big fish too. It was a trout near 7lbs and the best fight I’ve ever had on a trout. Here goes…..

Let’s sing it kids!! Row, row, row, your boat gently down the lake, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Simon became my b*tch!! Yeah, really an understatement! Simon rowed us all the way to the dam. Notice how I said row so not to be mixed up with roe!! It probably took and what seemed like an hour to get to the dam. I’ll give Simon a huge thank you for his efforts. He never gave up once even while fighting the wind. The wind came up way too early too.

We anchor and right away Simon gets hooked up as I retie my line up. These fish will kick your butt on 2lb line. Man! Do they fight hard! Then he gets another one and it was a continuation of this all day. It was an instant bite and many came off or missed on the hookset. We had small hooks on but more time was spent anchoring. We needed to re-anchor a lot because the back anchor was too small to dig into the lake bottom. The wind was strong then it would die down then come back again. While anchored for quite some time, the biggest bass I’ve ever seen hung around our boat when we caught fish. That sucker must have been at least a 17lber. The trout were tiny compared to this thing. A couple of Simon’s trout were attacked in the head. It followed my fish, feel a thump, then I feel this heavy weight, and then my 4lb line screaming off my reel. Ohh sh*t it has the trout then let go after a brief moment. The huge bass whack the trout to stun it, attack the head once more, and then swallow it head first. Pretty neat to watch it live. On a good note I called the lifeguard to tow us in once we caught our limits.

I have bragging rights now!! LMV 2008 Angler Of Year, 2nd place this year, a lake record trout limit of 4 fish weighing 17.80lbs, and I caught the biggest trout this year. It weighed 6 ½ on the cheap lake scale. I left my scale at home and I catch a big fish.

BASS FISHING INFO: The trout have been too big for the bass to eat this year. The big fish didn’t eat any trout before the spawn this season. They are all hungry. A couple of buddies of mine have been catching a 7or 8lb fish on a weekly average and many 4-6lbers too. They were out on Sunday and a couple of big bass came off.

What's the story on the Big Bass spawing season out there?
They must be killing them and keeping it quiet out there or it must be dead..
