View Full Version : Official unofficial Yankee thread for "the Angler"

Considering the "Yankee" fans on FNN over the past couple years only come out to bash other teams on Dodger or Halo baseball threads, I thought it was time that baseball's version of the Death Star finally got its due. This way we don't have to hear that "the Yankees rule" while talking about a Dodger hitting for the cycle anymore.

So...HOW about those Yanks? 20Hrs in 4 games in the new crib? 14 runs in one inning AT home vs the tribe? WHAT WAS THAT??

Hard to believe "manager Joe Girardi bypassed Chien-Ming Wang (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7502/;_ylt=AlryVSydlmds4jfPwlgcImqpu7YF) for his next turn following three terrible outings"...what a joke that guy has been thus far. The angels are missing almost the whole starting rotation and have a lower era?

Hey maybe when A-Roid gets back he can help the team out by taking the mound?

Lets hear your thoughts and concerns NY fans...

wha? No takers? Guess that's the sound of one Yankee fan's hand clapping? Funny how the bandwagon empties out when things get bumpy...:Crying: Curious how the Pinheads death spiral can be traced right back to Jeeter's SI cover... you know, the one in which he's wearing all of his rings. can you say "Jinx" with a nu yawk accent?

...and it probably doesn't help the Bronx Bummers cause to have Rodriguez lighting all those a**-scented candles in the clubhouse either...

m'kay, now get ready for a Yankers fan to give us a history lesson. (at least there's the past for them to live in!)

GO YANKEES!!!!!

C'mon you were begging for your own thread!

Personally I think the Yanks are in for a "special" season and we all deserve a thread to discuss it. I mean since the Dodgers are a joke, we gotta have a "real" team to talk about!

Its all good Angler, the season is young and maybe you will get the laugh last....we shall see!

The fact that if you're out in the center field bleachers, you don't have a view of the right or left field, depending on what side you're on.

You can pay as low as $5 to see the Angels, $9 to see the superior Dodgers and still be able to actaully watch the game....just sayin. Still be a cool place to see a game, just not in those seats from what it looks like.

Anyone see Jason Bay's 2 out homer to lead the RedSox to an eventual extra inning victory on a walk off homer by Kevin Youkilis? I did

We have a Yankee fan in our office and today I helped him come up with different, less painful ways for Yankee fans to say "loss". Among my favorites are:

"An inverse win"
"A happy accident"
"Pin-striped"
"A Steinbrenation"
"Bronx-holed"
"A big, steaming pile of CC"

We were too busy analyzing the -13 run differential in the Yankee's season so far, which would've been even more embarrassing if they hadn't scored those 11 runs off of Detroit's relief staff yesterday.

In any case, the Yanks should've had some of those runs for Monday's game, when your excellent off season pickup of C.rispy C.reme Sabathia lost his 2nd game of the year, 4 to 2. At this rate, we just have to sit back and watch him eat himself towards a mediocre 10-12 year.

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/9316/pregnantcc.jpg

Seems to be another great pitching acquisition so far, and he obviously seems ot be enjoying the fine dining New York has to offer; that, or he's smuggling a midget under those pin stripes.

(Hey, speaking of over priced questionable talent that the Yankees sign, I'm sure you'd love to know that Hideki "The Toad" Irabu is now a member of the Long Beach Armada. Another Yankee great...

Peter Gammons called, he wants his headline article from ESPN The Magazine, August 2008 back. BTW, the line of people wanting this to happen is out the door and around back. Pop a seat with SoCalGuy and wait your turn. You sound like a bitter Red Sox fan.

He could be sacrificing live puppies and clubbing baby seals out in left field for all I care, as long as he continues raking like he did in last night's game against the Giants.

(And I can't wait for the big names the Yankees picked up to not earn their keep, which at this point, is already happening.

I guess the wait wasn't so long.)

Yeah....I change teams every year......NOT. Only been a DIE HARD Dodger fan since I was 5. And no, I dont mind giving credit to CERTAIN teams when its due. The Yankmees? Never. A team with a $500 gabillion payroll shouldnt even have a loss yet this season. Ive actually BEEN to Yankee stadium and paid my tribute to some of the greatest players who ever played the game.....because I am a REAL baseball fan, but I wore my Dodger jersey (even though the Dodgers werent playing), just to piss off the Yankee fans. I must admit however, though alot of em are ridiculous, most of the ones I met, like on the subway to the game, were very knowledgable about the game and very nice contrary to the belief. Sure I got razzed about being a Dodger fan....its to be expected.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are the best major league sports franchise when it comes to paying fans back for their investment of time, money and passion

The angels have drawn at least 3.3 million fans every year since 2004, never finishing lower then second in AL attendance.

out of the article

the stands are packed every game and if not at the game watching on fsn.

Good luck you guys have a nice little winning streak going!

Good luck you guys have a nice little winning streak going!

The Dodgers pack the place too. That doesn't mean the fans are anything to write home about, as they are already seeking a beach ball to hit or the wave to stand up on, after the 2nd pitch of the game, and are leaving after the singing of God Bless America, regardless of the score.

So, 'packing the stadium,' doesn't mean much. Believe me, I've seen how little that coincides with having a fan base that actually cares about the game and the team.

And unless you can get Nielsen ratings for the share of viewership when the Angels are on tv, don't claim the Angels get 'watched on tv.'

The 'winning' streak you talk about...is that Boston's winning streak against you during the playoffs? Because the way it looks, it seems the road to advancing in the post season goes through Boston. And we all know how well that's worked out in the past few years.

BTW, the Angel thread is collecting dust. And of course, we'll see the posts start coming in during October.

In any case, since this is the Yankees thread, they're 1 game away from sweeping the Bo Sox in the Bronx.

They're probably playing the best baseball in the bigs right now.

ahh, yeah, im not the resident Yankee fan.

I actually don't appreciate them much.

But I'm sure The_Angler is giddy about the 6 game winning streak, and the fact A Roids just hit a bomb against Lester in the 7th to put the score in the Yanks favor, 1-0.

With the Boston offense that is rivaling the Dodger offense, that'll be enough runs to get the W, and consequently, the sweep.

I dunno, that formidable line up that money can buy looks pretty serious.

They are also 5 games above .500 on the road so I'm not seeing a "choke" factor there.

I will agree that for the money they spent on their new ball park, it is pretty intramurals.

I had the pleasure of watching them beat down the Red Sox on Friday, August 19th at Fenway. Since I hate the Red Sox more than I do the Yankees, it was a great time.

The Obligatory Green Monster Shot

With that said, before the Yankees start ordering the champagne, they do have to get past the Ralley Monkeys. The Red Monkeys own the Yankees in the post season. And their recent acquisition with Scott Kazmir? Check out his lifetime ERA against the Yanks and tell me that won't pose a problem during a short series.

As I've tried to tell the over zealous Dodger fans who are also preparing for a parade, the post season is all about match ups.

And a few parting shots.

1. It's hilarious the fact that the Yankees payroll is twice as much as any team in baseball, and usually have one player whose contract is worth more than some teams' entire rosters, and yet they still manage to STRUGGLE to win their division. Having an all star team every year, and using simple econometrics, they SHOULD be winning it every year. The fact that they don't is what makes me sleep good at night.

2. The minor league system is as barren as Death Valley, because who needs a farm system when you can buy the penthouse suite?! Can't wait what other expensive free agents are in the crystal ball for next year.

3. I think it's safe to say that the AL is weaker this year, especially the AL East. Factor in the fact they have a wind tunnel for a stadium, and adding to that how much weaker their competitors are, methinks the Yanks are a very beatable team with a great record.

Judging from this statement, it's safe to say you haven't played baseball in any type of legitimate league or really don't know the nuances of the game.

At 2nd base, umpires will rarely call safe when the middle infielder is not touching the bag unless

1. It is blatant and obvious
2. It is just a force out at 2nd and the middle infielder is not on the bag.

It's no wonder Tim McArver and the rest of the Fox Yankee lovers announcers repeated, "I really hope that call at 2nd doesn't affect the outcome of the game" about 15 times during that inning, because even they knew that it was BS. If it "was in the rule book," the guys in the booth wouldn't have been squirming and trying to look away for that entire inning.

ANY avid baseball watcher knows that this happens on almost a daily basis during the regular season. The second baseman or shortstop is ‘close enough’ to the bag while turning a double play and it is an automatic out. It’s called the neighborhood play and I’d say 99 out of 100 times an umpire calls the runner out. But for some reason Jerry Layne decided that in the biggest game of the year that it was time to be ‘that guy’ and called Cabrera safe.

Garbage call, but garbage calls have been all over during the post season.

Here's another way to look at it:

How often to NBA referees call a foul on a last second shot? How many times have you seen the like of Kobe Bryant drive the lane, get HACKED, and the foul never gets called? According to the NBA rule books, there should be a foul, but the referees eat the whistle and rarely blow it, as they don't want a game to be decided in that manner.

So spare me the "it's in the rule book" comment. I thought you were a baseball fan.

And congratulations on your team buying their way into the World Series this year. You've 'earned' it.

Darkshadow i know your a little pissed cause your team isnt going to the ship but oh ****** well. YES U DO HAVE TO TAG THE BASE ON A FORCE OUT OR TAG THE RUNNER PLAIN & SIMPLE.

Plus your ignorant claims of me not knowing the sport or having ever played it is pure stupidity on your part. So go google your Rules and you will learn the reason why that stupid UNOFFICIAL rule was implemented at second base. SOME umpires would call the runners out without the player getting tagged or tagging the base Why u ask? Because they didnt want to risk the runners colliding with the defenders. Which is bullshit, Why u ask take this for example

u got a runner on 3rd base the base's are loaded the batter up bunts the ball down the first base line , the catcher gets the ball about a foot from home plate and doesnt tag the runner coming from third nor does he tag the base throws the ball to first gets the out but complains that the runner that has just scored wasnt called out because he was hovering above the bag when he threw the ball.why didnt the blue call him out? Oh yea because he didnt tag the runner or step on home plate (Oh yea the The Angels are Batting)

Stop bitching like a little girl the call was made its over and done with Angels won yesterday and from the likes of that game with a score of 11-1 i dont think that call would have made a difference since they got creamed even with the BS call that swisher ran early.
