Anyone tried catching crawfish in the Sierra's? Which lakes? How deep should I set my traps? Should I set them in the sand or the rocky areas? What should I use for bait?

Thanks - I just purchased some traps and I'll post when I catch some...

I hear there are large numbers in Silver Lake and others on the June Lake loop, but not in June. Guys place their pots near reeds and weeds, and an open can of cat food works for bait.

What is a "pot" or where can you get one of those?

Thanks!

Fisheroman: The crawfish "pot" is another crawfish trap. I purchased my traps from Terry Bullard at http://www.terrybullard.com/ 8)

How come posts always mention June Lake for crawfish and not the other lakes in the June Lake loop? :?: I'll let you know next week how my traps worked since I'll be up in Mammoth/June Lake area over the next 5 days. :D

Thanks greg!

I've heard Gull lake is good for crawdads...

Please let me know how you do next week. I'll be heading up the 3rd week of July and would love to get in on the little bugs!

Good luck and have a GREAT time!
