Today I was fishing with Stan Frye, who was given a guide trip for his 70th birthday, from his son Bobby. Happy Birthday Stan.

Today was another assault on Vail, and with the same results. First one on the water, and on fish with the first cast. I had told Stan that I would have him on fish within one minute, a bold prediction on my part, but lucky for me it happened. Stan nailed a fat crappie on his first cast.

It seems that on almost every trip this week we started the day with a nice crappie. They don't bite all day, but rather only until the sun gets up. But that's alright, because the bass more than make up for it. I don't know if it's possible for the bite to get any better.

Today the bass bite was once again on fire. It started off with a lot of smaller grade fish until Stan set the hook into some very big. I quickly figured out it was another big catfish. We worked the fish out to deep water, and soon Stan had it in the boat. A quick picture and back she went.

We both hung huge catfish today, and there was just no way to stop them. I mean these were fish of monster size. They felt like trucks as they stripped line, and then broke us off in the trees. There was just no stopping them with 6 pound line. We did land another one of about 8 pounds.

At around 11:00, the bite for the bigger bass broke wide open, just like yesterday. Stan was able to get on a few of the bigger grade fish. I had time to pick up a rod and fish today, and I stuck a good one as well. My fish went 6 pounds 11 ounces.

The wind came up prety strong at about this time, and it grew stronger, so at 12:00, Stan decided he had had enough fishing for one day. We figured we caught between 65 and 70 fish today. Thanks again for fishing with me Stan, and I look forward to fishing with you and your grandkids in June.

Thanks,

Art

You are welcome Pete. I forgot to say it was nice seeing you out there today. I would have loved to have stayed longer, as the bigger bass were getting active, but my client had to leave.

Looks like Stan "The man" as usual had a great day fishing with Art on good 'ol Vail Lake. Art, your next goal is to land one of those huge cats you hook from time to time out there. You've landed practically everything else, why not a big cat just for the heck of it.

One of the ones I was hooked up to this morning was towing my boat. I was no match for that fish.

I wonder why those catfish are so "active" as far as eatin drop-shot's/reaction baits and such in Vail compared to other lakes..
It's weird..
