Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing with the husband and wife team of Dave Weller, and his wife Sally. We had this trip planned since last year, and the long wait was certainly worth the wait.
We were the first boat to launch, and as soon as we arrived to our spot, Sally was on a solid crappie with her first cast. These crappie are strong fighters, and they eat the same bait as the bass.
The fishing was fantastic as I had promised, as both Dave and Sally connected with bass over 5 pounds, plus several catfish. Sally even scored a rare Vail Lake quadruple, as she caught crappie, bass, catfish, and a rainbow trout. The trout were stocked into Vail last month. It's the first one I have heard of being caught.
The fishing never slowed down all day. It was pretty much wide open at every spot we tried yesterday. We ended the day with close to 100 fish. It was just a crazy wide open bite.
It just seems that this bite is never going to end. We called it at 2:00, as both Dave and Sally were pretty tired from pulling on fish, and getting up at 3:00 A.M. to get there.
It was awesome fishing with both of you, and I can't wait to do it again soon. Thanks again for a great day.
