Lake Casitas saturday and easter Sunday

Went to Lake Casitas this weekend fished Saturday and part of Easter Sunday.

Met my buddy Mark up there late Friday night.


Saturday:
We set out to find Big Bass, I already knew in my heart with the last 5-6 weather patterns that have kept sneaking in through the last month or more would have postponed the normal spawn cycle and I figured most fish would have been in the last phase of their pre-spawn staging patterns….
This was precisely what we found……we metered many fish, most were suspended which would make 100% sense…in their last stage of pre-spawn.

Mark had insisted that we go to this one leg of the lake that he had fished the day before…I kindly disagreed….he insisted….so off we went…

It ended up being a good choice.

We metered many fish holding at 4’ to 10’ over 13’ to 17’…

IT WAS SICK……we were metering fish …a whole lot of fish but it was TOUGH to get them to go…look at these meter shots !

We Attacked. !

After about 20 minutes……………………

HOOKUP !!!!!!!!!!!!.........Mark is on his first fish…..!!!!!
After a nice worthy battle about a 3 lbder gets boated…..
(he didn’t want me to take a photo !)

Saweet….we’re actually getting some action !!!!...this is what we came for..

After another 15 minutes or so……

HOOKUP !.....I’m On !

Zzzzzzzzz!...............Thump….Thump…Zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz…BENDO !!!!!

Ahhhhh yes….A HUGE TOAD….one real worthy adversary…..!

(it was my biggest for the weekend !)

Another 30 minutes or so…..

HOOKUP !......I'M ON AGAIN ! Ohhhhhhh Yeah…..another nice Nice fat toad…..drag peeler !!!
At LEAST 5 lbs plus….Mark tried to take my pic and it didn’t come out and I already released the fish….Dayam !!!!...so.no pic ! Dayam !

But….
Daddy’s back !!................... that sucka was a nice long fat TOAD !

to the ol’ Stompin grounds we were and I wanted to let those Bass know “Daddy’s Baaaaack !” that what was transpiring !

Then…….Mark’s number gets called again !

Hoookup !...............another nice solid staging fish…!

Another lull in the bite then we both get 2 more fish !

Now I want to make things clear, we had to work real hard to get these fish to bite….overall the action was way far from open and the fish were still staging..

We went off to other avenues after that bite subsided…..worked it hard in many zones with many methods…

I tried a crawler..amongst them to limited success.
I managed 1 other fish in about 8’, a smaller male that was clearly past the staging patterns…and moving up..

I also managed 1 real nice fat redear on a crawler !

Sunday:
The morning was much colder than Saturday even though it was still hot later…this definitely affected the bite.

Conditions were worse than Saturday.


We went through most of the morning wothoput a single strike till around 11 or so…..THEN…………………
Hookup….another nice solid stager..

And then…….
About an hour and ½ later

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…..ahhhhh yes…..Ohh Yeah….Yeah buddy….

It’s Onnnnnn!....she’s jumping….she’s pulling drag…BENDO !

I can see my hook everytime she jumps….!

Right on the upper lip……!

I’m getting worried cause she wants to keep coming on top and jumping….! I don’t want her ta shake off !

So everytime she starts running up…..I put my rod down in the water to steer her back down, this worked ……………..!

This was my 2nd biggest fish for the weekend !

Another nice fat Toad falls to my steel and is released but with the knowledge that I will return for her Grandma ! and for her when she put’s on another few lbs…


Good times….real rough conditions to get them going but we still managed some fish.

Our weapons of choice must remain anonymous at this time as I must return for the REAL BIG Pigs sometime soon.

All fish caught were released..

nice job gary, looks like a fun weekend. buzzbait, the lake is not closed to private boaters, you just have to go through an inspection and quarantine period and you can't take your boat off the trailer or you have to go through the whole thing again, so you're basically a one lake guy for a while.

Nice job out there, especially dealing with finicky fish.

From what I've been hearing about Casitas and from the looks of some of your fish, I'd say you were dealing with some post spawners too, they also tend to go out suspend and school up like that.

I guess there are fish in all stages about now, either way getting them to bite is no easy task, WTG.
