Mirage 3-20-09

Took a charter boat on the mirage with all the guys from work. (We do this 3 times a year)

We got to the Boat around 8:30pm and the tailgate party had already begun with a few guys already plastered hahahaa.


Well we board up get are bunks and head out around 10pmish.

It was beautiful and clear with a little crispness in the air.

I was telling everyone that this will be a great trip. With the weather being great for 2 weeks prior.

So the boat party begins and i shoot the stuff with the deckkies whom were all cool as hell since they have seen us on board for the last 7 years. Drinks were flowing and poker was had.

We baited up and headed out to the backside of the islands. We stopped around 2:30am to try for some live squid. I was the only one that was still awake enough to try (lots of vodka and monsters hahaha) I only managed to catch 4 and the deck hand was not able to land any. but it was cool we had a crap load of fresh dead.

I crashed out after that and woke up in the galley (i was trying to stay awake but i failed haha)

i rushed the up and grabbed the prime spot, dead center of the back of the boat. I was rigged up on my new setup with 65lbs spider wire and 25lbs flouro leader.

at first we tried for some yellows and hali but nothing going down there so we move to the rock fishing spot.

Dropped down and was the first guy to land (only took me about 1 min lol) The whole boat started hooking up big time. We were fishing at about 200ft.

After about 2 hours of pure slayage we moved to another spot. This was ling central. Huge lings were getting pulled up left and right with a good mixture of rockkies. My bag was filling up really quick with a good mixture of reds, chucks, trees, grouper, jonnys, and blues.

we moved again and back to the slay. the weather was so perfect that we could hit every little rock outcropping in the ocean.

the day pretty much was like that thew whole time.


then the last spot we hit held the big boys. The jackpot came from that spot with a nice salmon grouper caught by the guy whom sets up the trips so he deserved it.


Then on the way back i rested with my kona burger while the other guys hit up the whitefish spot for nothing. we headed back in to port with all 25 guys limits plus crew limits plus some.


there was so many fish caught on that boat it was just crazy,

the best was Wes catching a fatty golden eye.



when the dekkies were cleaning the fish me and my buddy skeeter talked about who would have the biggest bag of fish after they were cleaned. He was #3 and was beating everyone else's bag since he had 11 fish with a nice whitefish. but i kept telling him he wont beat my 10 fish and neither will anyone else. I had a FAT bag of meat all my fish were big. i was #15. Once they did mine up i swept the boat with my bag of fish.

Next trip we are doing a side bet of biggest bag of cleaned fish.

So great crew + great fishing buddy's + great weather = Awesome fishing trip!!!!!!!!!!!!
