Made some plans to fish with friends today at Lake Mission Viejo. They rarely fish at all but today I had them covered. Last time I took Rich and Liz out fishing was to Laguna Niguel Lake 5 years ago. They had a blast then and we each limited on the Utah rainbows. The weather is warming up so this may be my last time out for the trout season. Fishing is addicting so you know how that one goes! Time to bring out the bass gear now. What a season it has been for those who have fished this lake. The bite wasn’t as good as Saturday was tho. Still using the same technique and fishing out in front of the swimbeach. The fish are in 20-25ft and are interested in nightcrawlers on a 2ft leader and 2-4lb line. The chartreuse powerbait has been working as of late too. I had one fish take the nightcrawler and then the powermouse on the other line. It had both hooks in its mouth. The trout are still jumping in the swimbeach teasing us. Highlite of the day was a small trout jumping and splashing like crazy swimming away for dear life in the swimbeach. The trout nearly beached itself as a big bass was chasing it. Next thing you know no splashes were left as the trout tired out and probably became a meal. The big redear are biting good on inflated nightcrawlers right now. The lake also has crappie in it but where are they? With warming water temps, the remaining trout will be at the dam in no time as the bass stage to move up for the spawn. Hhhmmm!! Will those big bass in the marina miss me at all? Until I fish for bass, then those big bass will get hand fed again!! Anyone interested in fishing this lake for bass? Let me know. I’m unemployed and need to fish more often now since having the free time. Having the chance at catching a double digit bass sounds great!! The lake visibility for sight fishing usually is 20-30ft Here are some pics.

These redear were full of small mollusk shells.

The bigger trout took me for a couple of nice runs. It weighed 4.25lbs.
