Socal Bassman

Bassguy and I decided to hit up Perris. Instead of launching out of Sail Cove as usual, we wanted to try our luck at lots 11&12. It sure is a long walk down to the water now. LOL. This morning would be a little different though, as I had to wait almost 20min. to go through the vessel inspection. Believe Bassguy had to wait a little over 30min. After we had our rigs setup we were on the water at 8:30a.m.
The conditions for today was mostly clear, a slight breeze, and sunny. Water temps were 64*F in the morning and warmed up a little to 67*F this afternoon. Water clarity was heavily stained with 1-2ft. visibility. The wind did pick up a little at noon, but it was only for a moment. Then calming down to about 5-6mph. Sure made kicking tough though, haha.
Anyway, I started out with the Lucky Craft Pointer 78DD for a bit with no luck. Then switched it off by using a Jackall Flick Shake rigged wacky on a dropshot. A few casts in, and I’m on. It didn’t take too long to bring in a dink fish. Bassguy not to be outdone, ties on a Flick Shake as well and soon brings in a solid 3lb. 9oz. fish. He re-rigs and casts out again. A few casts later, he is on again and brings in a 2lb. fish. Not long after he releases it, I’m on again. This fish was an identical 3lb. 9oz. fish Bassguy released earlier. By this time we start joking, saying we are catching the same fish over and over. We stuck around the area for a little while longer with no more luck so we decided to kick to the other side of the cove. Decided to put the dropshot to the side and drag a brush hog on a C-rig. No luck with that.
As we reached our destination, we had to take a quick break so Bassguy could re-situate his sweatpants under his waders which were bunched up around his calf. We get back on the water and Bassguy gets on the phone. Not long after, he says “Wait, I got a fish!” The fish makes some nice jumps and I know it’s another solid fish. It gave him a good fight, until I stepped in and landed the chunky 4lb. bass for him. Nice! We fished as much of the shoreline as we can, but no more takers. Then the wind starts to kick up a bit and Bassguy develops a cramp in his leg. So, we decided to head back to our first spot in case the wind decides to really pick up.
I must not have been paying attention or something as I found myself heading over to the new launch ramp. While Bassguy was making a b-line to our destination. Oh well, I tried to make the best of it and decided to drag a 6” Robo Shaking Worm on a dropshot. With the wind making it difficult to kick and shore fishermen lined the banks, I was pretty much stuck to fishing the 15ft. depth. It turned out to be a good thing though as I managed to land two fish back to back weighing 3lbs 12oz and 3lbs 8oz., respectively. Eventually I made it back to our original spot. We had several bites, but no hookups. We continue to fish the area for nothing. It was about 2p.m. when I get a solid hit, I swing, and fish on. However, the fish jumps and spits out the hook. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. With not much happening, we called it a day at 3p.m. All fish other than my two fish caught in 15ft. of water were caught in 10ft. Of water or less. Enjoy some pics of the day.
