I'm gonna be at the next two tournaments lookinf to place in the tourny, but on the website, it says that you must be 16. Well, the problem is that I jsut turned 15 last week. So, does this mean I've been wasting tourny money?

my guess it probably has something to do with the "legal" issues surrounding the tournament as well as the publicity around the tournament.

i'm sure you could probably get away with not being 16...though if you win it all or something large, they may ask for verification and if you are indeed lying would have to forfeit whatever you won.

I would think for most instances they don't check on age...even if you win....

In order to enter into any legal contract you must be 18, in other words, a legal adult. Why someone would require you to be 16 to fish in a tournament is beyond me. I could see a reason on a public lake. At 16, you are a minor that is required to buy an adult fishing license. But at Irvine, you are not required to have a fishing license. Irvine lake does charge a 15 year old an adult fee to fish. So, they have already have admitted that they consider you an adult. Ask for a waiver ahead of time and offer a signed note of permission from your parents. It can't hurt to ask.

Either that or just keep your mouth shut and don't carry any ID.

My son Tony Jr. has been fishing with me at Irvine for the past few years and he's never been carded. He's 16 years old now.

hey kevin i sent the lake an email asking why kids under 16 cant participate in the master's and they said because in the tournament they blind draw partners for whom to share a boat. They said they can't have a child with a complete stranger.
