So i have't fished since January. For the most part it was because of school and work. Today, I was off from work but had class in the evening from 6:00-10:00pm. I decided to take a risk of fallng asleep in class, which i did, by going on fishing trip. I've been having an itch to go for the longest time. It is required that I show up to class so I couldn't skip it in favor of a 3/4 day trip. So i had to take 1/2 day trip. My brother was on spring break so he decided to tag along. We decided to get on the Southern Cal out of pierpoint.

There was about 20 something of us, I estimated. Ryan was the captain, Mitch on deck, and Manny in the Galley. So the plan was to head out towards PV/San Pedro for some rockfish, and salmon grouper. first stop was for the salmon grouper in pretty deep water. the trick was sardines on dropper loop w/8-10 oz sinker to get to the bottom and not be affected by the current. It wasn't wanything wide open but it was steady. we pulled up to the spot just before ten and stayed out there until almost 12. I am pretty sure everbody got at least one. Me and my brother got our limits of nice size ones. pics down below. around 12:30ish he moved around a little, and tried to catch whatever would bite on the bottom. sculpin, assorted rockfish, etc. from that point on it was really slow. there were sculpin caught here and there and also little rockfish. there was also a nice cabbie caught. people were using strips of squid or sardines on dropper loops with slightly lighter sinkers 6oz. around 2:30 we pulled anchor and headed home to make it at the docks just after 3:00pm. Jackpot was taken by a really salmon grouper

all in all i rate it a good trip. me and my brother got limits of at least soemthing and had a good time being out there on the water. took my mind off of school and work for once with something other than going to party or a bar, or even my favorite hooby: shopping for kicks(shoes). lol. I even got to try out my new custom wrapped calstar 800m with an avet mxj that i got back in january. it was collecting dust.

Hi Mr_J,

Sounds about like the typical 1/2-day trip right about this time of year. 20 anglers is not too bad. Nice report and pics.

Thanks,

JapanRon
