Has any one tired the Shimano Trevela Rod for surf fishing?

Havent fished it but the action on the jigging rod would work with a lucky craft?

Travela is a vertical jigging rod.

Shimano makes the Tiralejo which is for surf fishing. I am not sure which one you are talking about.

not good. i think most guys are using steelhead rods and spinning reels for perch. halibut may be a different story, depending on how heavy lures and line you want.

Lucky Crafts call for a crankbait rod to prevent the hooks from pulling out. The Trevalas are not what you would use because they can't cast a 1/2oz Flash Minnow very far and the action isn't correct. I use a Phenix X-10 and it is my favorite halibut jerkbait rod. The fiberglass trip and corresponding moderate/medium action allow me to cast my jerkbait as far as I need, and it also prevents the halibut from ripping out the hooks when it shakes its head. The graphite shaft gives me enough power to turn . I've tried all graphite crankbait sticks and they didn't work at all for halibut. The faster action made it a pain to cast jerkbaits a good distance, and when I did hook a halibut the hooks would tear out.

If you can't spend the $190 on the Phenix, look for a crankbait rod that is rated to 1/4oz-1oz, 8-20lb line, and has a medium or moderate action. You don't need anything more than a 7' rod, but if you want to bump up to 7'6" you can.
