After a great trip to San Quintin with Rich and the guys, I decided to go down for round two. This time it would only be my brother and I. We loaded up the Jeep Saturday morning and we were off. The recent media coverage on the escalated drug trafficking activity and violence around the border had me a little worried but I'm happy to report that we didn't notice a hint of danger on the drive down.

Since the Old Mill Hotel was booked I decided to try the Desert Inn(formerly known as "La Pinta"). Its a resort style hotel about 15 km away from where we would be fishing. From what i read this is one of the most accommodating hotels in San Quintin. It offers a/c, nice restaurant, satellite tv, and its beach front among other things....

So we arrive at the hotel and get unpacked...order some lunch and get ready for some bay fishing.

We get to the bay and talk to Hector(Pedro's Pangas) about the next days fishing. I had read weather forecasts on strong winds blowing at 17mph the day we were supposed to fish. Hector said to be ready in the morning...It wouldn't be bad enough to keep us from fishing. So feeling a little relieved after getting squared away with Hector my bro and i proceed to our bay fishing. Its low tide so we make the best of it and make our way down to a fishable area. We fished for about an hour with no luck so decide to just explore a bit.

After walking around the bay we hit up Jardines Restaurant and had some ceviche, enchiladas, and shrimp cocktail....The food at Jardines is awesome! We leave there with a happy stomach and head for our hotel. Just before we arrive to the hotel my bro sees a path leading to the beach. He feels a little adventurous so we drive down thru some sand dunes and head to the beach

We drive around the beach for a while and scope out some surf fishing spots to try on monday. Head back to our room and kick back for a couple hours. The sun goes down and we don't feel like being in the room. Its time for Tacos! LOL. Drove into town for some tacos and cruise a bit to see what nightlife San Quintin has to offer. Just as i suspected, San Quintin is pretty quiet at night. Its time to head back, get ready for fishing the next day and call it a night.
Sunday morning we show up at Pedros Pangas to hear that we might not be going out. Hector says that when it starts off windy in the morning, the day will only get worse. He left it up to us weather we would go out or not. I told him we could hit up the 240 spot. If conditions are ok...then we could head out farther, if not, then we could find something around the bay. Hector agrees, we load our stuff on the "Romey" and were off!

We end up not making it to the 240 spot as conditions are not up to par. It was Windy and very choppy...Hector found some spots close to the bay where we could hook up on some nice fish. The days catch included Chuckleheads, Lingcod, Whitefish, Sheephead, Sandbass, Sculpin, and a couple reds...We ended up with around 40-50 misc fish in 4 hours fishing time. Not bad for the conditions we were fishing under.

My bros camera ended up getting wet on the boat and stopped working. He took some more pics with his phone...I will post them as soon as he sends them to me...Cmon bro...wheres my fish pics!!! LOL
anyway, We fished for about 4 hours til we had enough of the 5' swells and 20mph winds. Headed in and got our fish cleaned. Everyone gathered around when we returned as they were curious to see what we caught. They thought we were crazy for going out in that wind LOL. We loaded our gear and cooler of fish back in the jeep and headed for the room. Showered up and headed out for some dinner at "El Faro". The food there was great but I personally thought the food at Jardines is a little better. After dinner we go to the room and rest up for another day.
Monday morning I wake up...Look at my bro and hes still snoring away. I gather my surf gear and head for the beach. I start out throwing the dropshot around for a couple short bites...switch to the LC and the bites stop... I try a Carolina rig with a motor oil color grub and it turns out being a good decision. I hook up on my first Baja BSP. A dink, but a perch nonetheless. I continue to fish and my bro makes his way to the beach on the jeep. We fished for a couple hours and catch a few perch. We took pics of some of our fish but they are also on his phone...CMON BRO I NEED THE PICS! LOL...
Sadly, Its now time to head to the room, gather our stuff, and checkout. But not before we get some breakfast! The chilaquiles at the hotel hit the spot quite well. Now were ready to go. We load our stuff into the Jeep once again and head for home.
The drive home was just like the drive to San Quintin. No Problemas. Being Monday, the wait at the border was only about 10mins. It was great visiting San Quintin again and my bro and I are already planning our next trip! Gracias for reading my report and Keep an eye out for more San Quintin reports to come!
