Me and Aaron (Woolybugger) decided to hit up the Owens for a couple of days to do some trout fishing. We had a great trip, and caught tons of fish, between us we got about 125 trout.

Drove up early on Tuesday morning and fished our way up to Big Pine. Stopped at Lone Pine creek and found some holdovers:

Then stopped by another creek for some wide open trout fishing, picked up about 10 trout each and Aaron got a nice brown.

Then checked out a spot on the Owens where we found some great fishing for more hold overs. After that we hit up our campsite in Big Pine.

Next day we hit up PVR, and fished from shore at the dam. It was on the stocking schedule but fishing sucked! I got two trout and lost a 5lber on a Lip Ripperz ZSpoon.

So we hit up another section of the Owens and it looked like it was just stocked, great fishing on jigs, but we had to work for them. Worked about a 1/4mile section of the river and picked up about 45 fish on everything from Lip Ripperz to Wooly Buggers on the fly.

After getting bored of catching fish, we decided to hit up PVR again for sunset, fishing was a little better however it was still bad. I was able to manage this nice brown though:

We found out later that the fishing was probably better further north, oh well.

Next day we hit up a bunch of spots on the owens again before we drove home. Picked up some cigars the night before, and had fun being dorks:

After hitting that section of the Owens, we hit up another part of Lone Pine Creek and found more hold overs, this time they were big and ready to spawn:

At about 2pm we were bored and had nowhere else to fish, so we decided to hit up Diaz Lake. Turned out to be a great decision. I caught 4 trout all between 2-3 pounds on Lip Ripperz trout worms and ZSpoons. Aaron got a bunch of nice fish too. Also caught some bass and bluegill.

Overall we had a great trip. Between us we got ~125 fish, too many too count. Hot baits were the usual Lip Ripperz, all artificials, no bait. Also got a bunch on Trout Magnets, various Berkley products, and spoons. All fish were sucessfully released (except 3 which we gave away) and fought awesome because they were in spawn mode.

Nice job. Looks like your toads came out of the still water. Judging from the colors on all your 'bows it looks like they're about ready to get their freak on. Thanks for the report and the pics.

Pink and White actually :) I love the trout magnets they slay fish, I like Lip Ripperz more however cause they're a little more versatile and i've found some ways to give them great action.

nice report! looks like you hit up a wide range of early season waters.... Does anyone know if they've been putting in trout every week in southern inyo since the opener?

I have not seen ANY of the Southern Inyo waters listed on the DFG site except for Diaz and the Owens below Tinemaha Res. for some reason.
PVR and the Owens from Laws to Steward have been seeing stocks bi-weekly not counting the sub-catchable plants that the DFG has been dumping.

and they said they put fish into Lone Pine Creek and the sand traps west of 395 last week. I hope so because I'm coming up on Friday night for an all-day of fishing Saturday.
