The bocaccio were hot, they were big, and limits all around. There were plenty of good sized johnny bass, bank perch, with a few barber poles. There were very few dinks caught today and even the starry eyes were good sized. The fish were suspended and it took a while to figure out how to catch them. The trick was to count down to 70, stop the line, then start to let it out slowly. Most of the fish were biting on the drop. 14 pax, 28 bocaccio, and 88 rockfish.

Hi waterpossum,

Good job on the fishys. Fish bocs with dines? or was it an all-Squid, all-the-time deal ?

We were fishing sardines and squid strips. If you fished dines, chances were, that you would catch a bocaccio. The limit for bocaccio this year is 2, so folks tended to switch to squid after catching their limit. Also lighter lines 15 -20 lb. were doing better than heavier lines. I quickly switched from a 12 oz. sinker to a 8 once and then to a 6 oz. The bite was so light that you couldn't feel the bite. You didn't want to hang the bottom anyhow. If you went to the bottom you would get a dink starry -eyed. Good luck from the possum's den!

Man even with the 2 fish limit of Boccaccio I think we still need the limit to go up to at least 4. WTG on the fish man!
