Everything seems to be biting at the lake right now. As we speak the lake's resident Crappie population has gone on the chew. Numerous fish in the 2lb class are being landed on mini jigs, 2" Gulp minnow grubs, road runners even a boober and a mealworm are getting the slabs.
The most productive areas have been the weeds around the boat dock, woodys cove, the brushy parts of the west shore and the flats. Look for this bite to improve as the spring moves on.
Here are some examples of the Trophys that are being caught.

Here are the three better fish. Pictured are Pro Team member, and Crappie guru, Marlon Meade with the Martinez boys.

Please remeber that the females are moving up to spawn! So please let the bigger fish go to help out the future of our lake.

I hear ya. I think its just awful what happened to that lake. I have some great memories working there. I am so glad I left O.C. when I did.

Let them give you the other side of the coin on the new Irvine lake. Yes no boating! It's not like I didn't go there in my boat a lot in the past. I considered myself one of the best trout trollers in the lake. (so it's not like I didn't take advantage of the old Irvine lake) Now here's the good news! I've literally been there every day they been open in the last 2 months, so I'm not talking theory but my own experience. We've caught 22 double digit catfish from shore in the last 2 months. (plus tons of stockers size catfish too!) Where else in Southern CA can you do that? The cost now isn't $29 dollars ahead, it's $5 dollar per car load! (I've got a years pass, so it's $1 to me) Plus their stocking trout this week. Last year the trout fishing was very good for what it was! (we will see about this year) No it's not the same lake, but the new lake is pretty darn nice!

p.s. The crowds for the last 2 months are a joke! Usually I won't have another fishermen fishing by me for 1/4 of a mile! Tell me you could say that about the old Irvine Lake! Lol

Let me just spell it out. Irvine Lake turned into 3 lakes this summer. The main lake where most people fished was on a 350 yard strip on the west shore. Or in 4 canals on the back side of trout island. Their was a small middle lake and a 3rd lake on the old East shore. When we were catfishing there for 2 months, I kid you not, I saw on just 3 occasions someone making a brief catfish attack back there in 2 months of fishing! Their was 6 or so Bass fishermen a day fishing back there but were at least 2 to 4 hundred yards away from us at the closest juncture! Many times we were fishing there all by ourselves lately! You can't beat that with a stick! Lol
