Berkley Cup 3-14-09 Second Place and a Masters Spot!!!

TEAM 57

By the time we got to the lake it had dropped to 51 degrees.

We got there early right around 5 am and the parking lot is starting to get pretty full. I went up to the shop and entered my Dad in the tournament, talked with Patrick and some other guys in line.

We decided that we would bait down near the point of Trout Island, which is now and Island! Overall it was very slow. We finally managed one fish in which I reeled in because we have agreed I always get the first fish of the day. I landed a smaller 1 1/2lb fish which fought very well, later pictured.

My Dad and I decided we would troll starting around 9am... so we set off and sometime later we hook into what looks like a nice sized fish. My Dad leaps into action and starts battling this beast. We see it get close to the boat and we were amazed, it was huge with beautiful colors.

All this time we are being rooted on by the shore anglers, even though our boat kept drifting in towards shore. Thanks guys for understanding. Like one guy said, "This is the most excitement we have had all day". I net this toad and the whole shoreline is in (gasps), then congratulatory shouting.

Soon after boating this fish we decided to go weigh the fish which ended up weighing 8lbs 8oz, ironicaly enough, exactly twice the size of my 3rd place Brook Trout which was 4lbs 4oz. Awesome Job Dad!

After weighing the fish we did some mild trolling around the lake in which I landed one more small trout...

1:30pm rolls around and we loaded the boat and got up to the raffle and finally the pictures and tournament prizes.

My Dad ended up with second place with his personal best trout at 8lbs 8oz, for $510.

It was a great day to be out on the water- good weather, not to crowded boat wise, and a second place finish!
