I'll be there in a blue whitewater raft and trolling motor. I have a couple of guys that are going to come out for a day maybe, but I may have room for another. The wind mentioned is something I've learned about on that lake from last year. I plan for it since I only have a trolling motor. I'll fish upwind and allow it to blow me back to camp when it comes along. I'll just hold on with the anchor as long as I can. Contact me if you'll be up there and you don't yet have a way out on the lake. We can trade info and I'll let you know my status as each day unfolds. I'll go up on Thursday night or Friday morning. I plan to fish all three days (Sat. Sun. Mon.) and go home Monday night. I'll camp on the north shore.

Don't you just love waking up at 3 am to the sound of DRAG! The cats come out at night.

THE FISH ARE READY FOR THE DERBY
April 4, 5, & 6, 2009

On November 14, 2008, the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce
received two loads of Rainbow Trout for this year’s derby. At the
time of delivery, the average weight of the fish were 5 to a pound.
Since that time a group of 25 volunteers from the Fish and Game
Habitat Club and the community have been feeding the trout twice
daily no matter rain, snow, wind, etc.

On Tuesday, March 17th, two members of the Kernville Fish Hatchery,
Danny Zide and William Wilson, visited the fish culture pens to check
the condition of the trout and get their current weight. The results
were outstanding with each fish averaging a weight of 1 pound each!
On Thursday and Friday before the Derby, members of the Fish & Game
Habitat Club will be planting all 13,000 of these beautiful 1 pound
trout into the lake.
In addition to these beauties being planted and available for the
derby, the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce purchased another
load of Alpers Trophy Trout which will be planted in Isabella Lake on
Monday March 30th and again on the Friday prior to the derby.

The fish are ready, the derby committee with all 125 plus volunteers
are ready, so let’s all have a great weekend of fishing with everyone
catching fish and winning big prizes.
