It's been awhile since I've posted but I've been busy. LOL Anyway my son must have downloaded a virus in his computer. Now every time it turns on it's either a "anti-virus software" that pops up and wants you to buy it. If you say no it just keeps popping up. Or a the nasty blue screen comes up. I've downloaded the Anti Malyware program awhile ago but when I open it up it looks like it's disabled. The virus must have messed it up.

So what can I do? I did the safe mode and tried the system restore but I couldn't find it. I am not a computer guru so I need help again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

screw norton... you'll never get it off your computer. its like a virus itself. only sure bet is to re-format the drive. if you have an external H.D. i would just save all the info you want to keep on there then pop in you operating sys. disc and reformat.

I don't believe it's a virus. There have been a few spyware's out there lately that mimick "antivirus software" where it pop's up and tells you that you have so many viruses on your computer and if you purchase the software it will help you get rid of it.

So far in my attempts to help friends and co-workers to remove this nasty spyware has been somewhat successful. The only real program that I've seen that will get rid of it is Malware, it cost 25 bucks but well worth it.

Here's what I recommended to someone elsewhere:

You're likely going to need a combination of virus/spyware removal tools. First and foremost, download ATF-Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) to clear up all your temp files, etc. I'd recommend you download and install Spybot Search & Destroy (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spybot-Search-Destroy/1043809773/1) as well as Adaware (http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3001-8022_4-10045910&ontId=8022_4&spi=4fcfef2b3b244d91147932f9fbb2b888&lop=txt&tag=idl2&pid=10998841&mfgId=69274&merId=69274&pguid=YUoiGwoPjFwAAG50VVwAAAAr&destUrl=http%3a%2f%2fsoftware-files.download.com%2fsd%2fFDD0KdCXwWNaUFS2XE09XYB8 cup307SqEJzroXEq8KIlED0LHmw1SK5txIgU1SeZ1TBLIyN0fC Jbl5GvvmDcIn0HHTUUbTXr%2fsoftware%2f10998841%2f100 45910%2f3%2fAd-AwareAE.exe%3flop%3dlink%26ptype%3d1901%26ontid%3d 8022%26siteId%3d4%26edId%3d3%26spi%3d4fcfef2b3b244 d91147932f9fbb2b888%26pid%3d10998841%26psid%3d1004 5910) . Lastly, download a copy of SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE) and make sure your AVG virus definitions are up-to-date.

Run ATF first. Then do a combination of the software mentioned above. There is NO ONE WAY of cleaning this virus up as there are so many variants of it given that it's an open source virus/scam (f-ing great!!). It may appear at times that you may have gotten rid of the virus, but when you least expect it it'll creep up on you. Continue running the tools until you're virus free. Oh yeah, try running as many of these tools as you can in safe mode and don't forget to turn off System Restore before you begin all this (My comp, right click, properties, System Restore tab, check Turn off System Restore).

Good luck & let us know how it all goes. By the way, the best way of preventing this from happening is avoiding porn (no joke!).

Malware Bytes usually works too, but it's not free like the other stuff I mentioned. Whatever you do, DO NOT get desperate and fork out the $$$ the virus is asking for. It'll take your $$$ and do nothing more. It's a scam. Good luck!!

Get yourself a cheap antispyware proggie, i use spyware doctor and spybot search and destroy.

install the anti spywares, update the definitions, disconnect your internet, and run full sweeps. After the main trojan proggies are quarantined reboot your pc, is you know how to edit your startup programs thru msconfig you should be able to take care of your little problem. pm me if you need a bit more help.

Thanks guys. I do have Malyware downloaded before but like I mentioned before I didn't work. I think the virus disabled it. I'll try to run something again but if it doesn't work I might have reformat the drive and install the windows xp again.

It sounds like either Antivirus 2008, 2009 or 360. You can clean it, but it's a pain. The best thing to do is probably format/reinstall Windows.

I have a solution for you.... download http://www.ccleaner.com/ for free, it cleans the registry in the computer. the registry the brain, in other words, if the brain isnt functioning the comp wont work. Then download Adaware http://www.lavasoft.com/ its another good one. Just in case get Malware Anti-malware http://www.2-spyware.com/review-malwarebytes-anti-malware.html this should do the trick. Its most likely the registry. let us know how it goes.

ok,this is what I need to do when I let someone else uses my pc and messes it up,this is for Windows XP only though....lol....first click on start, then click on control panel.....after,click on program control(i forget the name)....then,after it loads up,look at the programs you have and find if there is any with the name of that "virus protector"(Or anything really suspicious),DELETE it....Also delete any program you never or will ever use and let the space clear up.....Restart or Reboot your PC and check if it happens again....If that doesn't work: press alt+control+delete....go to the 2nd tab in the page that comes up.....find the name of the "virus blocker"(Or any name of a suspicious program) and right click on it.....then click on the "terminate group"or something similiar.....then use a virus protector like norton 360....scan for viruses, then terminate or quarantine all viruses that come up.....This helps me when someone inexperienced with pc's jacks up my computer....lol....Good Luck!
