View Full Version : Do fish bite right after being stocked?

Do you guys know if trout and catfish will bite just hours after being stocked? I've heard that sometimes they get sedated for the transporting and that can affect the bite.

You can catch trout with lures like kastmasters, Thomas bouyants, panther martins, etc right when they are stocked.

I have seen that trout bite right after a stock. CATFISH takes a little longer from what I have seen.

do you happen to have a guess at roughly how long it takes for catfish to come around? is it a matter of hours (like 8 to 12 hours) or days?

trout take about an hour or so from my experience. catfish like troutman said take longer, but ive never really figured out how much longer.

It all depends on how the fish were shipped in.. Some will bite right off the truck if handled properly and not drugged up.. The trout do bite faster and the catfish coming in will push up the holdovers to feed.. So the bite can happen within an hour of the stock in the best situation.. Hard to predict with the kitties.. I have also seen the delivery man feed the cats at the stocking to prevent them from biting at the city parks..

Well, because of the XY sex-determination system, Lurk182's DAD'S chromosomes gave him a dick. I know that much, because I paid attention in Biology 101.
