Headed out to a local stream for some trout action with a buddy of mine who had purchased a new fly rod and wanted to break it in. Unfortunately I had let my brother borrow my fly rod so I just took my spinning outfit set up with 2lb test. We arrived there around 1pm and no one fishing or swimming in the creek. We hiked down to the creek and I lost my first set up on my second cast, I should have know that was a sign of things to come. After losing the next 6 set ups in 1/2 hr. I decided to called it a day and proceeded to watch my buddy catch 10 trout. with his new fly rod. We decided to call it a day around 3pm.

All fish on flies and I had to visit Bob Marriott's to restock lost flies.

Abel,

Thanks for the report and the pics, very nice. Nice trout. Sorry to hear about the frustration, those break-offs are killer, especially when your buddy is standing there hangin' em'. Get your fly rod back and go get em'!

nice fish. you'll get 'em next time.

Is that fly in the pic a bead-head pheasant tail?

Sucks to get loose that many flies so quickly.. LOL that's why I tie my own. After having a half hour into that fly, I am going to get wet to get that sucker back!!

Thanks City Dad and the fly in the pic is a type of beaded nymph. I know I went to Bob Marriott's the following day and picked some up.

Thanks Sean and I have tried tie my own flies but I don't have the patience and they end up looking like lint balls not flies when I was done. I would have gone in the water but is was really Cold with no waders and the 2lb test I was using was braking after a couple of tugs. Believe me I found my waders and it will not happen again not at $2 a fly.

Don't give up that easily!! that ball of lint will catch a fish too. Remember Nature isn't perfect and neither are the flies that we make.

Sometimes I wonder if I tie one of the foxtails that stick in my sock on a hook when I'm fishing, I bet I could make a trout think it's a caddis fly :Secret:

Good work on the trout. Be patient when you break off and always check your back casting room!
