My buddy wanted to fish the Salton Sea today, so we left the house at 4:00am and arrived at Leon's Market(located in Mecca) two hours later. After picking up breakfast and bait, we headed south on the 111. Our lines were in the water by 6:30 am.

I love this place, haven't fished it for almost 9 years.

This use to be our favorite corvina spot, but didn't produce today.

Packed up after an hour of fishing, cause nothing wanted to bite.

We ended up at the jetties.

There were plenty of people there.

The day started out nice and ended perfect. Between the 3 of us we caught over 70 fish, which keep us busy throughout the day. I had fun today, even though the fish were on the small side. IMO this is the best time of year to fish the Salton Sea because of the awesome weather. Thanks for reading and good luck on your next fishing adventure, Pokerface.

Pokerface... Hey a year from now, those Tilapias will be about 1/2 lb heavier and 2 to 3 inches longer! Tilapias are a super-fast growing fish. As long as there is algae or other plants for them to eat, and if the sea doesn't get too much saltier, you will see some big ones caught. I've seen them average 12 to 14 inches long there a few years ago. And strong fighting on light tackle!

Yeah let's hope the sea doesn't get any saltier. Nice report on the Tilapias WTG. I went to the sea couple of weeks ago the action was fair, and hey the fish taste pretty good.

It really seems that the tilapia are doing well. For the last few years I haven't seen any bigger than about 6-8" in the reports.

Lot of nostalgia connected to that place for sure.

Although very baron and arid, the scenery there has its own appeal.

Looks like you were out at Salt Creek from your pics. I've fished there many times. Even got interviewed by the LA Times there. Was fishing where the creek dumps into the sea and a ranger and a reporter walked down to me and the wife. I think you can still pull up the article on there web site. I;ll be out there right around Sept. 1 always stop at Salt Creek and fish for a while before heading down to Niland for the dove opener. Good job on the tillapia

Nice report...probably the better area is the jetty. However, I've seen people walk right up and fish on top of people who are already there...not cool. One dad told his kid to throw his line over an elderly gentleman who happen to catching fish. Also, people are fishing in the harbor were there signs specifically saying "no fishing". Fishing manners and protocol go out the window when the fish start biting and makes for a sad day.

Other than that, lots of small fishies...
