Hiro and I got there b4 the butcrack of dawn….WAY B4 dawn !
Started out with instant action on white seabass…we could see them everywhere in the dark by the suface…Hiro hooked up 1st cast gulp style….
I followed suit about 3 casts later…
Soory we didn’t take pics of them as they were way short and they don’t take well to being handled so as to be kind, we released them promptly
We proceeded to catch about 5 White Seabass each and went to target our flatfish….
It was pretty Tough but after a while …I look over at Hiro and:…….Hookup !
Hiro managed 1 short.

I thought I felt that familiar sluggish feel to my jig that is often a halibut……and I don’t procrastinate so I drive steel !......Hookup!!
Hmn….I forget what these are called but I saw one recently posted, I believe from Newport….Not sure of the species but it’s one strange freakin fish….it had 2 huge fangs like a snake set back up in the roof of it’s mouth and it was making some real weird noises….not many fish trip me out but this one did…I took a quick pick and got him back into the bay where he belongs..
What is it again ?????

We fished on and as Dawn came Khanh (KPN) came and joined us……
we got our sargo slayfest ON!….
we nailed many and released a couple and took our limits home for the table….hmn hmn hmn…dee-licious !
Also landed 1 Opalye.

After that, we decided to seek some Cuda…..and Cuda is what we got….
Most were small scooters but we actually caught probably about 6-8 that were bigger models, we didn’t take photos of those as they too don’t fare well to being handled so we released them quickly.
We did take a few photos of some smaller models.

Khanh proceeded to “get his slay ON!” using his saltwater version mack pattern shallow diver….he caught a grip on it ! he also nailed 'em on the sardine pattern.
Nice work there KPN !

I landed one that was 27 ¾”…just ¼” shy of legal…
shortly after Khanh nailed one that seemed like it WOULD HAVE BEEN Legal BUT THE seal ate HALF OF IT !!!
Dayam Seal !

Back to targeting the flatties we went….
It was pretty slow but Hiro struck again, unfortunately way short but at least he managed 2 for the day.
We also landed 1 Sandbass just at legal and 1 calico. (sorry didn’t bother with pics)
What a great time we had…we probably caught over 30 Cuda, many were in the larger range but only 2 near or at legal size.
Good times….good times !,
Gary
