http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/tt74/db_bucket_photos/IMG_0788.jpg I did a dual trip this year as I got up in the owens valley to round valley area [ just west of PVR ] on friday morn. at sunup . I went hiking around looking and collecting dropped deer antlers and then headed over to PVR to see whats happening . Went to the south end first near dam and the hot spot there was the WEST end of the dam . [ some nice alpers caught ] . Then I headed to the north end and walked all the way in [ long walk after hiking all morn. ] to find people catching fish but nothing big . So I drove over to my spot which was in the middle of PVR across from the launch ramp . After spending the night in the back of my truck I hiked down the steep slope [ just below the Edison power line tower ] with my tube strapped to my back and fins and poles in hand . The lk. was like glass with cold air . There were quit a few people fishing the launch ramp area either walking or riding there bikes in , but the hot spot there for shore guys was the area about 100 yrds. SOUTH from the ramp . Everyone was catching but only small fish . I started off using a slip water bobber with wt. inside and full of water and a # 4 single bait hook . I put a white Berkly power egg over the knot and a half a nite crawler and it was so fast on the hookups that I never could get my second rod out . All fish were lip hooked and easly released without handling fish [ C/R like 25-30 ] and then the fishing just died for me and then I switched to the same wht. egg and the Berkly PB in GARLIC flavor and within 60 seconds it was a fish on . 5 hookups = 5 fish kept as the little trout swallowed the hook . It was a cool weekend as everthing is turning green in the hills this time of year . // db [ BEAR WITH ME ON THE PICS THING AS I HAVE 6 TOTAL UPLOADED BUT CAN ONLY PASTE 1 AT A TIME ? ]

How much time did you spend hunting for antlers. Seems like a cool way to spend a morning. Seems like you made out pretty good. I am guessing that the deer shed antlers in the early spring? Is there a high concentration of bucks in that area? Damn I have alot of ???s If you dont mind, could I send you a PM and ask some questions about the sheds/
Back to fishing
I always wondered why someone would attempt climbing that hill at PVR to get to the water when you can ride a bike in from the power plant. That hike back up has to be a killer. I can already see myself snapping a rod tip on the way up. Props to you

Hiking around the foothills and seeing deer and just looking down on the valley is woth it , those antlers are from 2 trips in one afternoon . you have to find where they are depending on the snow level sometimes , but mainly just hiking your butt off . When I was pulling up to PVR area friday early eve. a local guy and his 2 young daughters 10-12 yrs. were coming up from fishing from the steep hill side , alot easier than it looks . and sat. there were 2 other trucks fishing the points opposite of where I was , alot less pressure .

Loved the report and pics DB! :Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:
I can remember several family vacations where we camped on the Owens and hike up into PVR in the mornings and afternoons for some fun fishing.

Pontoon , camping PVR and fishing there when you were younger makes for memories that last forever . Vince lets fish BBL this April [ my boat ] . Patrick , this is the first trout trip that I wasn't trolling in a long time and I'll see you on sat. [ 14 ] as Iam Irvine bound for sure . I have enough antlers for 3 antler chandalliers , 1 in my home already and can make 2 more now , ha . PVR is a place right now to catch ALOT of fish , you'll have to fallow T.O. if you want to get the big ones , lol // db http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/tt74/db_bucket_photos/IMG_0767.jpg
