Met up with Bassguy at Perris yesterday at about 7:30a.m. We decided to try our luck out of Sail Cove today. By the time we finished setting our gear up, we were ready to launch by 8:00a.m. It was mostly cloudy with some sun and a slight breeze in the morning. By noon, there was virtually no clouds and warm. Water color was heavily stained in some parts to muddy in other parts. Where the water was heavily stained, there was visibility down to about 2ft. The water temps. today were 56*F in the morning then warmed up to 60*F at 1:00p.m.
After I missed a bite shortly after we launched, we made our way to the dam. There, we fished most of the morning. We both threw everything at these fish. Bassguy started the day with his first jig fish in about 18ft. of water. We continued fishing down the dam until just past where the second pier used to be without a single bite. We decided to turn back and fish our way back to where we started. Again, we tried various baits and techniques without a single bite. We did see three guys in a boat catching and keeping fish. From our perspective, we couldn't tell what they were catching. Bassguy decided to continue fishing the dam a little while longer, while I headed out to deeper water. Since the trusty dropshot wasn't working for me, I switched off to a 4" tube. Caught one small fish on the tube in 35ft. of water.
I went back to the dam where Bassguy was and fished the north west corner for nothing. Next, we headed towards the area by the new fishing pier. On the way there, I passed over an area where it dropped off from 19ft. to 28ft. Positioned the tube in about 23ft. of water and casted past the dropoff. This payed off with another dink fish. After releasing the fish, I had to kick back to my previous position as the wind was beginning to blow a little harder. Made another cast and again, it produced a bite as my bait was close to the dropoff. Unfortunately the fish jumped 8ft. away from my tube and was able to shake the tube out of it's mouth. After awhile, Bassguy wanted to hit the dam area again, but I stayed behind looking for other dropoffs. I called it a day at 3:30p.m. Bassguy comes in shortly after I do and informs me that the boat with the three guys we saw earlier, was indeed catching and keeping every bass they caught.
