Met up with Bassguy at Perris yesterday at about 7:30a.m. We decided to try our luck out of Sail Cove today. By the time we finished setting our gear up, we were ready to launch by 8:00a.m. It was mostly cloudy with some sun and a slight breeze in the morning. By noon, there was virtually no clouds and warm. Water color was heavily stained in some parts to muddy in other parts. Where the water was heavily stained, there was visibility down to about 2ft. The water temps. today were 56*F in the morning then warmed up to 60*F at 1:00p.m.

After I missed a bite shortly after we launched, we made our way to the dam. There, we fished most of the morning. We both threw everything at these fish. Bassguy started the day with his first jig fish in about 18ft. of water. We continued fishing down the dam until just past where the second pier used to be without a single bite. We decided to turn back and fish our way back to where we started. Again, we tried various baits and techniques without a single bite. We did see three guys in a boat catching and keeping fish. From our perspective, we couldn't tell what they were catching. Bassguy decided to continue fishing the dam a little while longer, while I headed out to deeper water. Since the trusty dropshot wasn't working for me, I switched off to a 4" tube. Caught one small fish on the tube in 35ft. of water.

I went back to the dam where Bassguy was and fished the north west corner for nothing. Next, we headed towards the area by the new fishing pier. On the way there, I passed over an area where it dropped off from 19ft. to 28ft. Positioned the tube in about 23ft. of water and casted past the dropoff. This payed off with another dink fish. After releasing the fish, I had to kick back to my previous position as the wind was beginning to blow a little harder. Made another cast and again, it produced a bite as my bait was close to the dropoff. Unfortunately the fish jumped 8ft. away from my tube and was able to shake the tube out of it's mouth. After awhile, Bassguy wanted to hit the dam area again, but I stayed behind looking for other dropoffs. I called it a day at 3:30p.m. Bassguy comes in shortly after I do and informs me that the boat with the three guys we saw earlier, was indeed catching and keeping every bass they caught.

SoCalBassGod,
Sorry we missed you guys Saturday. Launched at 7am and beelined to the southern part of the dam. Fished there and the southern shoreline never making it back to Sail Cove. Glad to hear you and BassGuy had some success so congrats to you both.

Wow, you guys have the Lexus of Float tubes. I also fished there yesterday on a rental with my dad. We ended up with 3 bass of decent size (all 2-3 lbs and released), 3 trout (kept because they took the hook too deep so we gave to some guys at the marina), a bluegill (aka redear sunfish; released), and of all things a carp (definately released). He was succesful on nightcrawlers and I caught my bass on plastics but did throw crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits. It was a tough bite out there. We did see those guys in the rental with the bass. I thought they were panfish, but if bass that's pretty sad. The only bass we saw caught was a 6-lber on a swimbait near rock climbers cove. Nobody else we spoke to caught anything all day and said we were even lucky to have got what we did. I'm sure today it will be WFO because I'm not there.

I've seen the same guys there the last two weeks.
They fish with live crawdads and keep all of their bass.

Hopefully the bite at Perris will get going soon. A lot of pressure there with DVL like it is.

SoCal,

Always a pleasure fishing with you. Weather was great, couldnt ask for much better. As Daryl mentioned, the day was slow, both of us missed several fish, but we both beat the skunk.

The dam area is where I caught both of my fish, as SoCal mentioned I landed my first jig fish, and my second was on the drop shot, fish wasn't picture worthy.

Although we didn't catch many, I think we discovered some new areas that could hold fish.

Again, thanks for a fun day of fishing, hopefully we can get out there again soon.

Here are a couple pics from my camers.

There were other people keeping bass? No wonder this place has gone down the toilet. The guys we saw were on an open bow boat. I think it was red and white. We talked to a few people and they all reported a slow bite.

Seng, I got my idea for making my own from another message board. It's really quite simple once you have a plan of what kind of rod holder you want.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Rambo, we'll catch you out on the water the next time out. With Perris' water clarity as it is, would make a good practice for when I fish Hodges at the end of the month.

Socal Bassman,

Nice job on working hard for your fish. The bite has been tough out there at Perris. I agree that the DVL situation has a little something to do with it also. Seems like there are more boats on the water than what I usually see.

I believe I saw the same two (2) guys taking the fish they caught two (2) weeks ago. They were in a red and white open bow fishing the bouy line right straight out from where the 2nd fishing pier used to be. If it is the same guys, it's sad to hear they are still doing that. The two (2) fish I saw them take looked barely 15" to me. I hate seeing that happen.

Thanks for the report and keep working them!
