i've read on article on fishing for bass while they're bedding. even though it's legal, many anglers frown on this tactic.

where do you stand when it comes to bed fishing for bass.

in this time period all bass are in the spawn period. whether post or pre, they are in the process of being on beds. i believe as long as they are released imediatly unharmed it is fine.

im ONLY against it if you dont place the bass back on its bed after its been caught for a pic. Thats my opinion.

As long as you're not "SNAGGING" them it's a legal catch, and as far as bass fishing is concerned; let's just hope everyone practices C&R.

Good luck all.

I pretty much have the same opinion. If you CATCH it ( no snagging) and release it I see no problem.

I guess I'm a hypocrite for voting for bed fishing, but I think that this type of fish shouldn't be over done. The reason is that by overfishing the bass they wpn't have enough energy to fend off the Bluegills that eat the eggs. Just saying.

I think bed fishing for bass does ruin alot of the spawn. In minnesota they closed all bass fishing for the whole spawn which was from like March - May and you could see the results every year. Tiny local lakes were always abundant with bass. I'd have 10 fish days in St. Paul and minneapolis easily in a few hours. Lots of people consider bass a pan fish in the midwest and readily eat them (yes they eat the bass) yet the fishing is still pretty good. Maybe thats what California needs as I can see the bass fishing is pretty weak these days.

I AM STRICKLY AGAINST BED FISHING FOR LARGEMOUTHS!

It severly reduces the number of LMB Fry and Fingerlings and they are a primary food source for STRIPERS! Let them SPAWN!

But seriously, I caught a little over 10lb bed fish in a tournament at Casitas in the early 90's and she began to dump her eggs in the well and at the weigh-in. I made a check but was it really worth it? My feelings after-wards were No. This can be a heated debate that goes on for ever but at the end of the day we all know it effects the population a hell of a lot more than live bait hacks keeping a few LMB's here and there.

:My Two Cents:

Binger Out!

agree 100%

with how sensitive people are in so cal about keeping bass it strikes me as odd the amount of bass fisherman that catch the same fish over and over again while they are bedding. ive seen bass with several holes in thier mouths, some so big hooks would just readily slide into them they had been caught so many times. doesnt make sense to me, IMO it should be illegal.

Bed fishing is not fishing, it is hunting.

i think its ok if you let the fish go and release it as close to the bed as you can without hurting the fish, its alot of fun to:Big Grin:

I love bass spawnin' season.

You know, it's really hard to chase stocking trucks year around. Even the best chasers need a break.
