Lightning,
There's quite alot of books out there, however, nothing brand new. I have a few dated 2001 and updated 2003. The list is below-

Fishing in southern california by Ken Albert, 2003. I got my at Turners for $15-.
It's a good read. All of the major lakes in SOCAL, how to fish them, seasons, etc.

The definitive guide to fishing in southern california by Chris Shafer. It was a gift, maybe, Barnes and Noble for $20-. The authors experiences with over 75 SOCAL lakes.

These both have helped my angling hobby.

Just goto a book store or library and see what they got.

Remember, in the words of "Ray Lopez", an angler on FNN, don't fish lakes- fish the fish. Too many times I would goto to a new lake and get skunked and go to another and get skunked. Concentrate on like five lakes and stick to them.

I hope this helps

My wife just bought me a book called:
Recreation Lakes of California (Spiral-bound)
14th edition.

Lots of good general information on Lakes.
