ART HILL

Today was another great day at Vail Lake. My son Art Jr. and I arrived at 7:00, to a balmy 31 degrees, and a lot of boats on the water. Typical spring Friday. We were ready to have some fun.
After launching we headed for the areas that have been very productive for me. My son Art Jr. grabbed an Ima "Flit" jerkbait, and on his third cast he was on. It was a nice fish of about 2 pounds. Not big, but a good start to the morning. I picked up my worm rod, and soon I was on. I was throwing my usual favorite color, Scared Shad. The 8 inch curly tail worm is awesome. You have to try it.
It seemed like Art Jr. and I kept trading hooksets, as each of us continued to hook up with fish. After a while I finally decided to pick up the hard bait, and just like Jr., on my second cast, I had one hammer the "Flit". These fish are sitting very shallow right now.
Jr. decided he wanted to switch it up and throw crankbaits, and we found a point where the fish were stacked up at 10 feet. Art started hammering the fish off that point. He was using a crawdad pattern Lucky Craft crankbait. The wind was the key factor today, as once the wind kicked up, the fish went ballistic. I have not had much of a chance to fish with my son for awhile now, so it was nice to see him slam some fish.
We did not keep a count of how many fish we caught today, as we were just having fun, but let's just say it was a lot. We decided to call it at 11:30, as we were both hungry, and my arms hurt. I am still feeling it from Tuesday's slaying.
And Ted, it was very nice meeting you today, and I hope you enjoyed the worms.
