Newport Harbor Fishing

Sup everyone, i might head out to newport harbor for some fishing. Im new to this type of fishing. I was just wondering if any of you all can shoot me down some tips. i know some basic stuff like fishing with light line 6#, using gulp saltwater products. Any little tip would be helpful.

oh yeah thinking of fishing for some halibut, sandbass etc.

Sandbass? There are a few, but not many, mostly on the smaller side. Better chances at a Spotted Sand Bass.
