One of our customers invited us to a fishing charter off of Oxnard at Captain Hook’s Sportfishing (Island Spirit). We left on Saturday morning at 4am and caught these slimy beasts until the sun came up. Most of these were caught in 600’-800’ of water from 400’ to 50’ deep. My friend Tim (also our IT guru) and I slayed about 6 each until our arms and backs gave out. The squid were in the 20 and 30 lb range and some 60 pounders were caught earlier in the week (2nd hand info). They fight like a jet boat and stretched out our 30lb test, and even broke some of our 10 oz jigs!
Once the sun came up, limited out on assorted rockfish, etc. Caught an additional 3 sculpin. The jackpot was a stray Ling, but not too big. Lots of good fishing up there but would rather get the warmer water fish on the surface.
