It's been a while since my last post.
I think I'll let the pictures tell most of the story and have everyone add to this report with their comments and pictures.
---------------------
Short story: We came, we fish, we killed em!!
---------------------
8 anglers went on this trip:
Sansou (referred to as Yoda)
Olfishergal
Capt. Boracho (Onyx)
IronShrimp (Adir)
Osiito
Victor101
Cappo
and me.
----------------------
Let's get right to it.
The morning was foggy...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280013.jpg
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280014.jpg

First it was white fish. Every drop was a whitey and not some 1lb dink, but serious 4~6lb whole squid eatin' monsters!! That was fun!!
After about 15 of these, Adir and I started getting a little bored and wanted to fish for some reds...
And Adir starts the massacre!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280016.jpg
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280017.jpg
These are some seriously big Vermillions!!

Our Capitan, Hector, shows Adir the "proper" way to hold fish when taking pictures.
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280018.jpg

Monkey see, monkey do....
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280019.jpg
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280020.jpg

Here's the only picture of me with fish...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280021.jpg
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280022.jpg

By 11:30 or so, the fish hold is absolutely packed.
The capitan is telling us we should start heading in.
That's when Adir mentions to the capitan that he's never caught a ling cod.
NUNCA? Nunca...OKAY...
He takes us to a little high spot, tell Adir to drop the line.
Within seconds, BAM!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280023.jpg
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280024.jpg

Okay, so now cherry-boy has been broken in, we're ready to go home...right?
No. Now Adir wants one that he can brag about....OKAY....
So he moves the boat 20ft, tells Adir to drop it here...
"I think I'm hung up on the bottom..."
Both me and the Capt. are yelling at him "NO!!! Wind in the line!!! That's a ling!!"
"Are you sure?"
"SHUT UP AND WIND!!!!"

The result...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280025.jpg

Yep, this ling would end up being 12.7lbs and the jackpot of the day!!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280026.jpg
(Dang beginners luck...)

So, now that the cherry has been THOROUGHLY popped, we're heading back to the docks.
I couldn't get a good shot, but there were whales in the bay feeding and spraying up a plume of mist. It was definitely a sight to see.

We get to the docks and find we're the first ones back.
Over the next 4 hours, they clean our fish and clean Team OzVicCappo (who killed over 5 species including a barracuda!!), and finally Team SanOlOnyx (who killed a colony of ling cods and landed a seriously tasty Chocolate Bass!!) come back to the dock.

Then the post fishing festivities!!
Sansou had some issues to "iron" out with Adir...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280029.jpg

Adir just kept on sleeping...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280030.jpg

So a concerned medical nurse came to help...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280031.jpg

Now that Adir was revived...it's time for dinner!!
Bonito Ceviche!

http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280033.jpg

The "Oh So Famous Clams"!!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280036.jpg

A combination of rockfish and white fish...
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280037.jpg

Fried ling cod and the extremely tasty Chocolate bass!!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280038.jpg

After dinner, we all go to bed and rest our tired bodies and savour the amazing day.
But of course, we had some great laughs before we did!!
http://tsuribaka.us/photos/2009/22090227/P2280039.jpg

The next morning, we wake up.
Have breakfast, load up the cars and head for home.
But first, a group picture!

Good food, Good fishing, Great group of people, Good times!!! At first i thought....the fishing down there CANT be as good as Rich says it is...Wrong! Fishing was awesome. Tripple hookups on monster whitefish...big 8,9,10lb bonita boiling all around the boat...Lings, Reds, and a Barracuda. And this is what the winter fishing is like! I can only imagine what its like in the summer...My arm felt like it was about to fall off!

Rich: Thanks for setting this thing up. You made me a new SQ regular

Joe: Thanks for the detailed PMs!

Juan and Jason: It was good fishing with you guys again...so when are we going back? LOL

Onyx, Adir, OFG: It was great meeting you all and I look forward to fishing with you again!

Ah man where to begin. Had such a great time down there. Food, fishing, and making new friends. Did I mention the food. I dont think I want to see another whitefish again . Amazing life out in the bay, we almost ran into a whale, then seen a great white. The thing was massive. I enjoyed watching the Capt. beat the living crap out of each fish, i was busting up. I tried to get a video but i was laughin too hard.
On to the pics.

Having done this little jaunt to SQ over the years I've come to realize that every trip has it's own little flavor. This trip was punctuated with spices of:

- Mexican Doritos Chile Verde (I think I got everyone hooked on these)
- Onyx's pet Sea Hare
- Grown men drinking Pina Coladas
- Pounds and pounds of bonito sashimi and ceviche
- Experiences in fine dining with "My Homie Oz"

We kicked off the trip bright and early in SD with my mandatory safety meeting. Crossed in to TJ in a 3 car caravan, and immediately the blood pressure shot up as we were missing Joe and Adir. They got the dreaded "luz rojo" at the crossing, and subsequent to the inspection could not make it across traffic to the right hand turn off to the "cuota". After hailing them on the radio and driving as slow as possible in the slumiest of neighborhoods, they finally caught up to us. (good job & good memory remembering the "trick" to it Joe!) Adir denies it, but we are pretty sure a 5 carat rough diamond fell out of his butt from stressing! LOL

After an uneventful ride down to SQ (the way I like it!), we checked in and had our complimentary Sol. While the rest were taking in the new sights and scenes, I grabbed Onyx and Adir and went on a scouting mission for Wingnut. We hit Pabellon Beach and drove several miles on the beach..... (Arthur, these spots look good to me!!)

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk274/sansou/San%20Quintin%20Feb%202009/SanQuintinFeb2009007.jpg

On the way back we hit a little mom-n-pop taqueria and had some food with Federales. That was a first for me... Later that night we all feasted at Los Jardines. Their surf & turf is killer! We had the mariachi play "Rancho Grande" for DeanHall who could not make it this trip.

Later that night, Onyx found a friend.

Fishing. Well, let's just say AccuWeather.com lacks in the "accu" part. The morning was met with dense fog and some nice swells. It flattened in the afternoon, and the sun finally burned thru. I fished with Olfishergal and Onyx and my favorite pangadero, El Pato. It bears mention that I have never ever experienced someone rally back from being seasick as good as Onyx!! After chumming a tad, and a nap, the man was re-born hardcore. I'm very impressed.

There was tons of surface activity, and so our goal was to cycle through enough bonito with hope of running in to some yellows. We trolled to cover ground and were constantly on a double hookup with the diving hardbaits. At stops I would drop a Pl68 or dropper loop a live greenback, but alas, no love on the YT, despite fishfinder indications otherwise. After a while, this became no more fun, and no one wanted to reel them bonito in anymore, so we stopped for lunch and didn't fish for about an hour. I brought some seaweed/Ponzu/chopsticks/wasabe for sashimi, so we carved up an ENTIRE bonito, which was scarfed down between Pato, Onyx and myself. That stuff is so darn good....

A bunch of laughs and lingcod later, we headed back north from the 240 and entered the bay. I drove the boat while Pato scouted for fish up front, and Onyx had himself a beer (you would have never known this guy got seasick!!) LOL. We made a few drifts for WSB where they were caught last week, but no love. At least we gave it a quick try, and thats why I like fishing with Pato....he fishes it to the very last possible moment. In fact, we got in several hours after everyone else.

Once the obligatory turista pics at the cleaning station were done, we all met up at Don Eddie's for the infamous clams. Suffice it to say, we ate like kings...
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk274/sansou/San%20Quintin%20Feb%202009/SanQuintinFeb2009021.jpg

Did I mention I saw some allegedly heterosexual men order some drinks at the bar? LMAO!

The next day, on the way back to the border we stumbled across a little Fish Taco place. The old lady who ran the joint must have thought her morning prayers were finally being answered when she saw the rotundness that is us when we got out of the car! We ordered approximately 2 zillion tacos, while Joe and Adir did the hardcore sunday menudo thing.

By the way......

A little explanation about this: last year Adir thought it would be funny to put a pair of his dirty underwear in my pillowcase when we attended the Team 57 Parchers trip. I was wondering why my pillow stank. (dude, I could of got pink eye!!!) LOL

This was payback: I woke him up to a face full of halibutt. Let that be a lesson.

LL,

They have whitefish down there that go in to the double digits sometimes that'll make you think you caught a baby YT...no joke. Plain old squid and a hook. Like the lingers, they fight the whole way up!

All right boyz, my turn......Being the only gal on this trip I liked the odds. Poor fellas, they thought they were with a shy old lady.......wrong!!!!! hehehehee..............I learned some great new terminology. What is this chit about the dutch rudder you guys were doing or was that the double dutch rudder.....Then there was all the beer, belching, snoring and farting one person could take. Glad my room was a couple doors down......I never heard so much fartin in my life. One of those guys had that poor sea hare. I think Adir got hit in the mouth with it. I heard in the morning there was blue ink all over the dirty undies....I decided it was a pocket ahemm pal, sure looked like one.....(it was released back to the deep unharmed for all of your PETA fans) Got lost on the way to sansous place. Don't ever trust mapquest. It gives the most out of the way directions and backwards to boot I have ever seen. Rich, Onyx, and I rode together in the caravan. Funny thing is the federalies would glance in our vehicle and all you heard was passe passe....now behind us, Oz and Joe would get stopped. What they didn't know was we told the feds that they were packing!!! I looked like chit on this trip and almost didn't go. Had been sick all week but what a great place to recover from the bad ol flu. Can't ever tell you when I have ever laughed so hard at these guys. Uh Joe, sorry about that clam under your front seat, Rich told me to do it!!!Sorry I didn't take pics guys, I am forgetful. The fishing was great considering the weather. I was cold to the bone in the fog. But, sure picked up all the great fishies I could possibly want. Thank you so much Rich for your patience in teaching me to fish the great salty. I can't wait to rack your brain some more and become really good at this sport. Anyway, plenty of secret fun I will keep to myself. If any of you enjoy the rustic world and get a chance to go, Baja is the place. Nice little motel we stayed in rustic and quaint. No clocks, TV, no phones. Lots of peace and quiet and major partying going on. Guys!!! u are all the best. Thanks for having fun with me this weekend. Onyx has a few more pics and we haven't heard from him yet. Glad to hang with all these new friends. Lets do it again guys and no, I don't need no stinkin babysitter!!!! Uhhh dutch rudder???

Vic, it was great to FINALLY meet you. Odd thing though, it felt like I've known you forever...I'm glad that you made it and had a good time!

Did you guys get to sample the good grub at Los Jardines?

No pictures of Pato??

Hey Joe- Did you drink a beer this time??

Thanks for the report and the great pictures FJ74

Dean, yeah I had a beer...or two. But I have weakness for pina coladas...
Glad you enjoyed the read!

It's nice to fish w/o the drama. Isn't it? LOL!!

(good job & good memory remembering the "trick" to it Joe!) Adir denies it, but we are pretty sure a 5 carat rough diamond fell out of his butt from stressing! LOL

Did I mention I saw some allegedly heterosexual men order some drinks at the bar? LMAO!

Joe and Adir did the hardcore sunday menudo thing.

Taking reservations now for next trip to San Quintin....caravan departs in April sometime.

Yoda, a good teacher is measured by how good the student learns. You have taught me well. If necessary, I feel confident I can do this trip with you sitting in the passenger seat next time!

Adir left me a few more diamonds when he realized that the two-way radios was out of range. You should have seen his face when Onyx's voice started to break up and go to a dead silence...classic.

And yes, heterosexual men like pina coladas.

The menudo was off the hook!! Although it did occur to me that I didn't see a single stray dog or cat during that whole stretch of road.....woof! LOL!!

If I'm welcome and the date is available for me, I'm down for a WSB hunt in SQ!!

Contrary to popular belief, I am SO glad you guys had a great time, and caught lots of fish!!! Way to go guys, glad you all got back safe....peace

GD

Thanks Steve! Within your lifetime you gotta do this trip. It's a nice break from reality that I think we all need from time to time.

That was a classic moment. Sorry for the blurry pic. Everything happened so suddenly!

WOW! Nice quality lings and reds. Why was Onyx holding a sea slug in his skivees?

Happy to see you all had a great time and made it back safely.

Glad you enjoyed the read.

Damn guys. Looks like a great time. Cappo remembered me.... Thanks for the whitefish porn bro. LoL... That bonito ceviche looks great sansou. Im gonna have to try it soon. Awesome job guys. Sucks you guys couldnt get the yellows to go though. I'm guessin april is gonna be off the hook.

LL, I didn't know you had a thing for whiteys.
The bonito ceviche was actually my idea to do. The Capt. of our boat mentioned that they do bonito ceviche and I thought to myself, "hmmm...I've never done that before." So I had the restaurant make it. It was off the hook!!

WOW!!! I love all the pictures!! Glad everyone had a good time and caught fish!! All the food looks soo good!

Great report and pictures!:Beer Toast:

FB, glad you enjoyed the read!! There's probably more pictures...except that most of it can't be posted....LOL!!

It's been a few years since I've been down to Old Mill. Thanks for the report and pics.

Glad you enjoyed the read. Old Mill is waiting for you....

LL,

They have whitefish down there that go in to the double digits sometimes that'll make you think you caught a baby YT...no joke. Plain old squid and a hook. Like the lingers, they fight the whole way up!

Every time I sat down to try to have a cig, I would get hit.
Normally, with the whiteys here locally, I would just lift my rod and set the hook...no big deal. But for these beasts, it got my blood pumping that I would forget the cig, jump up and swing HARD!! Can you imagine, a whitey taking line?!?! Amazing!!

Oz, it was nice fishing with you too brah!
This is what fishing is supposed to be!! Glad you were there to share in the moment with us.

Next time, plead with Juan to use his truck. I felt sorry for the LOWRIDER 101.

Hi funjunkie74,

Great reporting and pics. Love to get two slightly different takes on as awesome trip as that one obviously became !!

Good for you guys,

JapanRon

Senpai! There are many different takes on this trip.
Everybody has a story and a point of view.
I'm really pleased to see that Oz, Juan, OFG and Sansou took the time to write a whole report!! It really adds depth to the adventure and I'm glad that I wasn't the only with a camera.

Glad you enjoyed the read!

Very Nicely done gang.

Way to represent Joseph~!! Proud of all of you guys.

To the JP - NICE LING mang.

Nice pics of homeboy on the john. Lizzie had quite a good laugh.

Not too shabby, eh?
Everyone on this trip put the hurtin' to the fish in a major way.
I think each boat managed to wipe out a family or two!!

Lizzie like the bathroom shot too?
That's what happens when you use SOMEONE ELSE'S BATHROOM!!
If you need to "drop off the kids at the pool", take them to your own pool!!

Uh Joe, sorry about that clam under your front seat, Rich told me to do it!!!
OFG

After spending a whole weekend with you Kris, I don't buy it for a minute!!
You were the mastermind behind it...I know...
You are and will forever be the coolest, funkiest, straight-up nastiest, nicest lady I have ever met. Don't ever change! (Not that you would for anyone...LOL!!)

I'm glad I had the chance to finally fish with you!!

The GF and I are heading down that way this weekend. Hopefully we'll hit up our bud Juan and his panga. Seems like you guys were only hitting the Bons on the surface? Hmm, that'll be good enough for me! the GF loves to bait-n-wait (or is it weight?), so maybe we can pull in some lings and rocks, reds and whites, too.

Any words of advice? What were you using on the bottom? squid? Chove? what seemed to work the best?

Thanks guys and it looks like it was a killer weekend.

Squid and dines/macs on the bottom. Make sure you take some sabaki rigs along cuz u gotta make your own bait. its easy and fast. Those fish will hit anything and your GF will be on the fish, no problem. Its a fun place to fish. You will catch some!!! have fun OFG ....P.S., take a clock so you know what time it is, your cell won't work.

sabikis, huh? never thought about that. good idea. i was going to bring some frozen squid and dines, and hope for the best. never caught my own, though! must remember to bring a bucket! Any tips on the sabikis?

olfishergal

Just go to wally world or sports chalet for the sabiki rigs. all u do is drop them over the side and bam, fishes on real quick. took about 15 minutes to make all the bait we needed for the day. Bring your own box of squid for sure. Rapalas for trolling for Tuna and bobes....
