Fished Irvine today for 2 trout both on the troll. This was my first time fishing trout by boat. I have been fishing Irvine's shoreline for a few seasons now with some success, but the boat is a whole different deal. How are most of you fishing when you rent or take your own boat. Drift? Troll? Bait>Jigs? I don't have a meter yet on this little rig of mine but I will.

I usually try drifting worms early if nothing I will troll for a couple of hours if thats not producing then I will try close to shore maybe even on shore put out some bait and throw some jigs. I will try just about everything generally something works if not try it all again even if theres no fish at least I gave it my best shot!

I guess I am looking for specific techniques for catching trout. In another fish report thread from that same day the guys said they metered fish and then fished for those fish from shore? It worked but what if the fish are to far offshore to cast to them then what? I have plenty of experience saltwater fishing but fairly new to the freshwater thing. If they were yellowtail I would know just what to do.

good job out there. drifting works pretty good with a power mouse or crawlers.
