Went to Marina Del Rey Harbor late Sunday afternoon, my back has been giving me issues but after a long Sundays rest in the house I had ta get out and do some fishing…

Got there late ..probably around 3- 3:30pm and figured I ‘d flat line troll a little on the way out to some spots…..

5 minutes into it………..HooooKuP !...

Barracuda
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09cuda1.jpg

Another 10 minutes or so and after 2 other short strikes….my LC Staysee gets another slam…

Another Scooter
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09cuda2.jpg

Seems like the warmer trend activated them suckas…really strange to get them this time of year though…

Got a Corbina on a small live smelt(correction: yellowfin croaker)
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09corbina1.jpg

Then another Corbina on a Gulp Alive minnow(correction: yellowfin croaker)
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09corbina3.jpg

On the LC(correction: yellowfin croaker)
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09corbina2.jpg
I proceeded to catch 1 more Corbina on a live smelt and and 1 more on the gulp
I stopped taking photos of them at that point to try to be sure they stay lively since I was releasing them, they weren’t the toad corbina’s that I’d hoped for but sometimes ya don’t get what ya want…sometimes ya get what ya NEED !

I got 1 Cuda on a smelt…they started getting much bigger at the end of the day…
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09cuda5.jpg

The Cuda were on fire for the LC….action was hot for about an hour after dusk..
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09cuda3.jpg
More Slimestick feva !
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09cuda4.jpg
I stopped taking photos of these snaggle toothed predators as many were a little short and I was releasing…they are very fragile once you bring them up and handle them so I was kind.

But I managed 1 that went way over legal (legal is 28” for those who dont know) and one just shy about ˝’.

I ended up catching 12 of them knarly suckas, many in the 25” range.

I even got 2 on the gulp minnow !

During all of these flurries…I periodically slung the gulp and targeted Halibut…]

Unfortunately the flatties would not go for me…

ALSO, periodically I went for more Sargo and got them, I landed 5 and lost 2, one that broke me off on 10 lb Halo.
Here are 2 of them:
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn284/garywuebben/MDR3-1-09sargo.jpg

I didn’t photograph all of them but they were all around the same size….real freakin pigs….I LOVE THESE FISH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! such great fighters..

I ended up landing:
12 barracuda
5 Yellowfin Croaker
5 Sargo

Anyway, that’s it….good luck to all,
Gary

Nice, looks like you got MDR harbor dialed in. We were at NPH yesterday and Steve (Flyngby) lost one of those Cudas at the boat. It was a awesome day on the water wasn't it?

As I mention below, I had ta rest my back for the better part of the day sun, then I got a wild hair and just went out, that would have been way late to go there to Piru and would have had to stop as I began..

As I've mentioned before, I kinda gravitate to where my odds are best to ensure that I don't have a fishless trip..

I'll make the next one, hopefully we have a warmer weather pattern and therefore a better bite pattern, I'm sure it was not easy going out there.

Thanks, they are some serious fun to catch and battle like a mack truck !

I had one break me off on 10 lb halo...man ...thats a stong fish to do that.

sorry I couldnt make your event sunday but I had to rest my back up as we were out all morning and into the evening saturday...starting with pyramid and NO ACTION...it was tough and we took a beating from that and went to marina del rey after that sat afternoon so I've been pushing it...

I kinda had to go where I knew I could get some solid action, I wasnt prepared to get up early again and take a beating with no fish to show for it...

Youll note that I didnt get to the water till 3:30pm..

I beleive you are right, this is one speciaes that is pretty new to me, I do beleive they are YFC...I have caught the Corbina out there though....now that you mention it these are are shorter and have the abscence of that purple hue on them..

I'm not getting the sargo on the gulp...got a secret method that I cannot divulge, they will hit that though but the 4" is a little big and the hook I use on that is too large.

They are Delicious, I'll see about posting some pics tomorrow from my fry tonight I'm having tonight

What a great day...sunny but pretty breezy in the late afternoon but once the sun went down the harbor was like glass....but now we got another storm messin things up....DAyam !!!!!!!!!!!

It's gonna blow wide open, the surface water temp out there has been around 58 degrees, once that translates to bottom temp...IT'S ON !!!

Gary, nice report !!! You got me hooked on that place. Where did you get the energy to go back out there so soon. It must be those power drinks you got Khanh hooked on. All I know is i'm still tired !!! I spent most of yesterday cleaning the salt off the boat and gear, but I can"t wait to go back :ROFL::ROFL:
