Need some help identifying the flat fish in the picture. Caught it off the Redondo Sport Fishing Pier on cut squid and peas (was fishing for Sargo). Saw a few other caught that day. Released it.

Cool looking thing... I would guess a Turbot or some kind of Sole.

I thought it might be a sole of some type. I've been looking online for a while for a match and no luck.

I believe its a turbot of some sort. There are some many little flatfish species its mind boggling. It might be a Diamond Turbot. Look how the body is more angled in front and behind the mid section, kinda like a diamond. They dont get very big, so it would make sense.

Turbot have a much different shape (diamond) with smaller mouths, eyes, and heads. Halibut have a longer body shape, with different shaped tail and a larger mouth. It looks like some type of sole. Rock sole perhaps.

Not a Diamond Turbot....
Looks like a Popeye Turbot (Sole)..
Rounded tail, pop eyes????

Did it have a small mouth and no teeth???
(hard to tell from Pic).

Turbot mouth is quite small, often wonder how they took the bait. also have no teeth, like a Sand Dab....

This is a C-O sole. The marks on the tail look sort of like a "C" and an "O".

Definitely a C-O sole. The tail markings give it away, but if it didn't have those I would have been inclined to say rock sole. There are so many different types of flat fish who don't have distinctive markings that it makes it next to impossible to figure out which one it is.
