With a Friday the 13th coming up in March a friend and I started talking about scary movies and came up with quite a few different movies that sent chills down the spine...maybe because of my age at the time, but for me JAWS takes the cake hands down as there was no movie prior or since that has scared the daylights out of me!

Other notables were The Exorcist, Halloween, Friday The 13th, The Omen, The Ring, "IT", Amityville Horror, Carrie,Saw, The Thing, the Shining, Blair Witch Project, Silence of the Lambs, Alien and Texas Chain Saw Massacre to name a few.

My top 3:
Jaws
Amityville Horror
Halloween

What are your favorite horror flicks?

I selected the shining only because when i first watched it i was a little kid watching it alone in my room. Scared the crap outta me when the little twins where at the end of the hall way. I would often then look while at night thinking they would show up when i was headed to restroom.

I thought "Jeepers Creepers 1" was a great movie because of its unpredictability

I've watched The Excorcist many a time.....on my own...with the lights turned off.

Never scared me any where near as much as Poltergeist did. First saw it when I was 12, last saw it on Monday.......slept on the couch with lights a blazing and the closet door I almost padlocked!

I'm a horror movie fan...but Poltergeist gets me every fricking time!

Evil dead 2 was pretty good. ( Which I think is a remake of evil dead 1)
"Dead by dawn! Dead by Dawn!"
They killed it with the corny-ness in the sequel "Evil Dead, Army of Darkness" though :Rolls Eyes:

For me, one of the scariest movies I saw when I was a kid was Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds'

I laugh through most "scary movies," except

The Exorcist

That movie just had so many qualities to scare the crap outta me. Just hearing Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, makes me double check to make sure Satan hasn't invaded my soul.

The other movies I really just laughed at. What was even more hilarious was when The Amityville Horror 'true story,' was proved to be a hoax.

Can anybody recommend some good J-Horror films? I figure America can no longer do it (as we rip off everything from overseas now,) so I'm sure there are some good quality Japanese horror flicks people can recommend.

The Exorcist. (especially the first one)

Followed by a distant second with the original "Faces of Death" documentary. Maybe not so scary as it was gross.

You know, u make a good point...I forgot the "Faces of Death" series.

Although, with the advent of the internet, and having 'seen it all,' those Faces of Death clips seem like Roadrunner cartoons, and I heard that a lot were staged.

Seriously, the movie that scared me the most was "Misery" with Kathy Bates and James Caan!
I think the fact that this could actually happen is what made the movie so scary to me. Having worked for years in the field of Mental Health, I really believe that there are people like "Annie Wilkes" out there.

Second scariest is Poltergeist. That Clown scene is The Scariest 2 minutes of movie magic ever!

Btw,
In S.Korea, there is a similar updated version of this movie. The "Demon Girl" calls on the cell, instead of the land line. Haha..

Dude,

Fake or not, Faces of Death was freaky scary. Back in the day, it was de rigueur at any self-respecting 12 year old slumber party.

Load up the VCR with Exorcist + Faces of Death, followed up by a little Ouija board session, maybe throw in a "bloody mary" 13 times in the dark with a flashlight under the chin in front of a mirror.......duuuude, that'll leave you skidmarks in the Batman underoos.
