Good question???
Its hard to tell from what I read.
They act on their own, own land and pay taxes on some of it..??
I know we have some MWD employees here, maybe they can clear that up??

(It was created by an act of the California Legislature in 1928, primarily to manage water)...

(It is a consortium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consortium) of 26 cities and water districts)??

I do know they carry a very big stick here on So Cal, and seem to do whatever they want, whenever they want, to whomever they want...

The name is usually shortened to the "Metropolitan Water District" or simply "MWD". number 210. you'll get one thousand by april no problem. a couple suggestions would be for everyone in the Hemet area of political influence should make sure they fill out the address info (which is optional) so they know the locals are behind it, which can be much more important than somebody from Havasu signing it. people should also start discussing what a reasonable fee would be, both in terms of daily and yearly pass fees. if enough people were willing to pay $50 a day, it might be pretty easy to swing, but look for people from the other side to claim that average joes are being eliminated, so make sure that there's no suggestion that any fees to shore fish be increased or allowing that program to be eliminated, not in this economy.

Sorry, I won't sign it. First, you don't clarify what is a "reasonable fee increase" of for what time frame will these "additional charges" be in place for. And do you really expect them to manage $$$ raised for a ramp extension better than they do now? I don't need to give them any more of my money. This scenario should have been included in the original plans to begin with when studying worst case scenarios.

Just signing this petition does not require you to fish the lake, but it does give you the chance to fish it if you choose. We need all the signatures possible to open it back up.
Dont be so damn selfish! There are alot of livelyhoods dependant on this lake as well as the need to hold those responsible for thier promises broken.
Who cares what the fees are and for how long.if you cant afford it,dont go! But atleast back the rest of us who dont really care (within reason) what the new fees are and for how long they will be imposed.
Eventually you will pay those fees to enter the lake, dont kid yourself!

i got it, why don't we sell the naming rights to the lake, like Staples Center right? it can be the Forrest L. Wood/ Bombardier Recreational Products Hemet Reservoir. that way all of the tourneys can be held at Ranger/Mercury Lake in the beutiful city of Hemet. those guys could write a check for $1.5 right now. get er done.

Selfish??? I think not since I've been launching my boat at DVL since it opened. So you would be willing to pay say an additional $20.00 launch fee for 20 years to launch your boat at DVL? Who's to say MWD isn't going to increase fees anyways? And you know they will. You can raise all the $$$ you won't and it isn't gonna stop them from charging you more and giving you less. Granted the situation there sucks but do you think additional fees to a select number of people is the answer? How many private boat launches were there at DVL in 2007? or in 2008? And even if your idea came to fruition, just exactly how quickly do you think they would get this done? I'd say at least 1 year for bidding process and all the other crap. And what do you do if someone decides to litigate? or an environmentalist demand an EIR done on it? Then what? Yeah we all want this done yesterday but reality has to set in at some point.

well, it sounds like MWD has been saying they don't have the money for it. with the state budget situation, there's an effort to let them know that the users would be willing to defer some of the costs which hopefully takes away the excuse they're using. of course they "could" afford a new ramp, but i'm not waiting around for them to find an extra one point five hanging around in their budget somewhere. what are the other "options"? waiting for them to think about it some more?

You guys already own that lake and the rights to it. MWD is a public municipality, run on tax payers dollars. If enough people sign the petition, write letters to their board of directors, show up at public meetings they've got to listen. But, the ratio of boaters to residents the lake supplies drinking water to is just not enough alone to support allocating funds to the ramp. It's going to take everyone that has grown dependent on that lake, from a one man personal business to a whole city. If everyone, not just the few boaters, but the whole circle of influence(which encompasses at least 10 cities) took a direct interest into keeping the lake open for boat launch, than it would be no question. Paying extra doesn't even matter. Their not a bank. They have to front the money with no timeline or guarantee payback, no interest. In their eyes they have to rob Peter to pay Paul. In other words they have to take money that is allocated to one project and make a case to the board of directors that reassigning it to the ramp is a better option. Municipalities, the Counties, Cities all work alike in the time line it takes to get from planning to the finished product. If approved, don't expect to have that thing poured by this summer.
I mean, sign the petition for at least a signature to show your being effected. Better yet, write a letter to their board explaining how it's effected your business/your livelihood, or the money you had to put out for a motor/boat that conforms to their regulations.

Squeaky gets the grease. :)

We have and it is not working. MWD has the money that is not the problem. The problem is that MWD feels because of the economic climate it should hold on to the money. You better believe that they are getting pressure from the city of hemet, it is loosing revenue because of this.
the petition is just another way to show MWD that we want a ramp. It is a great idea an i commend Megan for doing it. People need to get the facts before the go off half cocked and spout stuff that is just not true....

no what i am saying is get your facts straight. sure mwd is public but they can do what they want with their lakes. they dont have to let us on any of their lakes if they dont want to. their purpose is to get water top the customer, thats it everything else is them being a good neighbor. Just like lake hemet municipal water district has concidered in the past closing their lake.
