This is actually two reports in one, but both have the same outcome …. Skunk. I put the boat out the Lagoon on Saturday and chased fish in all of my productive spots and ended the day with nothing. I threw everything in my tackle box at them. Yesterday I put the boat out on the upper lake and fished some more spots that usually produce for me. I mainly stuck with a drop shot and a jig trailed by a Kreature. Nothing again. I did run into a couple of turtles sunning themselves, even though there was very little sun out there yesterday. It was mostly overcast in the afternoon and it turned cold by the time I pulled off of the lake. Castaic has been tough the last couple of weeks.

(By the way, my wife and I were walking our dog at the Lagoon tonight and watched as they pulled a fairly new Mercedez out of the Lagoon. I guess the brakes went out on the ramp and the car went swimming. I didn't have the camera tonight so no car photos.)

There is a large Softshell turtle that lives in Dry Gulch (Dry Creek) at the upper lake. I was almost able to snag it once. The shell was about 2 feet across!

Lake Havasu has a HUGE population of Softshell turtles!!!

Yes. sir. SOFTSHELL! I also found a dead large softshell floating in Pyramid about 10 years ago, that one was even larger! I guess it just got too cold up there for it to survive the Winter.

The softshell I saw at the upper lake was chasing my lure in. We cast at it a bunch of times before it finally sunk out. We were using texas rigged finesse baits which made it practically impossible to snag that sucker! Didn't have time to reach for a reactionbait with exposed hooks.

Sorry bout the skunk, the fishing has been tough no matter where you go lately, once the barromter levels out we’ll see a rise in the action…the only way to find oput whats up though is to stay on ‘em, sooner than later the action will go off and you’ll be there when it does….

A while back I caught the type pictured below on my hook while bass fishing.....IN THE MOUTH ! man, getting the hook from their upper jaw was knarly.....it is really hard bony tissue....I felt sorry for him so I took a pic and gave 'em a pep talk of what to eat and what not to eat and back to the lagoon he went....
