Decided to hit up the 1230-1100 session at SARL on Wed since we finally got back into some nice weather. Got to the lake and set up at my usual spot....next to a guy fishing by himself but with 7 poles  It was a nice day when I got in tho and a fairly light crowd. The water was running at the bubble hole and seemed to be in the upper 50's but was muddy and clarity was probably only about a foot. Not great but seen it worse this year so can't complain.

Started slow as there were no fish and not even any bites during the day session and as we crept into the night there were still no fish but a nice sunset was happening

The nephew arrived at about 630 and at about 7 he lands his first fish. Decent rainbow and he has his skunk off right away!

The bite started to get live as he catches his first fish but I'm having issues as I've farmed two fish but am confident that things will turn around. Sure enough at about 720 I hook up and get my skunk off with a small 1# rainbow. Pressure off and time to really enjoy!

From this point on the bite turned pretty lively for the rest of the evening. We landed 10 fish total......4 lightening and the rest lassies.....no tail walkers in this bunch from what I could tell but it was a hell of a night.

Here's my nephews first lightening trout of the night.....we both got two

and one of mine

I'll try and grab a pic of the stringer but the nephew is slaving over the sink cleaning the catch right now. This was a great tune up for the event this Friday! Looking forward to seeing all of you out there!!

Peace out...FDS

That was a nice report with some great pictures...your nephews 2nd lightning trout has some awesome color! What was the hot bait for you? See you on Friday....

All 10 fish were caught on glow in the dark nitro crawlers. We were throwing powerbait (green, garlic, rainbow, sherbert....all the colors) for no love. I also had a nightcrawler out and a meal worm at different times but no bites. Some of the nitro crawlers were tipped with a nitro egg and all were dipped in either anise or garlic scent. Fish weren't that deep either. Not right off shore like before but probably 30 feet out at the most.

And a correction to what I wrote earlier.....apparently after cleaning part of the catch we did end up with a tail walker.

Here are the pics of the catch.....first are the 6 I caught

and the 4 that the nephew caught

and a close up of his two lightening trout because they had some really nice color as TD mentioned!

I was there last night fishing levitz corner. It was crazy to see about 1000 gulls in the water:EyePop:. I only managed 1 lighting and 1 rainbow, very slow on that side. Used around 7 different pb and crawlers with liters ranging from 6-18inches. Guess I'll get them next time.

Thanks Casty, too bad you couldn't make it out last night. Would have been fun to wet a line with you. Let's hook up soon and go catch us some greased Lightening!

We saw you guys out there and were wondering if the action was any good in the corner. I was just about ready to pick up a pole and go scout around when the bite started to get live for us so I never actually left. And the number of birds were amazing....we thought if we could skim the water of the feathers we would of had a couple of nice pillows! Sorry that it was a bit slower for you but at least you beat the :Skunk: Might want to try the glow in the dark nitro crawlers next time....4th trip in a row where it has been the hot ticket for me. I've only been able to find them at the SARL tackle shop so it's a bit more expensive but I guess you can't beat the convenience!

How do you rig the Nitro crawlers?# 10 hook or treble?

How do you rig the Nitro crawlers?# 10 hook or treble?

I use a #10 on one pole and a treble on the other because I usually start by trying powerbait on that pole. On the #10 it's a power mouse combo with the worm hooked on the smaller, thinner side of the worm. With a treble (usually a #18) I thread the same end of the crawler onto each tine of the treble and don't use a power egg. I have a few more errands to get to tonight before heading out to the lake but will try and take a picture of each rig for ya if you like before getting out of here.

Hey thanks for the advice. I'm new to the whole power worm thing. I'm planning on taking my son fishing this weekend and he want's to go to SARL so we'll give it a try. Thanks again F187

No problem. I'm no expert but hopefully this will help you and your son get on some fish this weekend. I do want to say also that the nitro crawler does work for me in the day but not nearly as well as the evening. I also didn't bring up any power eggs with me so I have a little piece of marshmallow as a substitute.

Here is a pic of the nitro crawlers and the scent that I prefer although any anise scent oil seems to work just as well.
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/Delta9incali/P2190002-1.jpg

This is a pic of the nitro crawler and I think you can see that it is tapered. You will want to use the small, thin end on your hook.
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/Delta9incali/P2190003-1.jpg

Here is a pic of the "power egg" on the #10 hook. I like to make sure the egg hides the eyelet of the hook before moving on to the nitro crawler.
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/Delta9incali/P2190004.jpg

And a pic of the nitro crawler partnered up with power egg on the hook
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/Delta9incali/P2190005.jpg

And finally the lone nitro crawler on the #18 treble hook.
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt36/Delta9incali/P2190006.jpg

Once everything is on the hook I soak the set up in anise oil and cast out. This past week the fish seemed to be about 30 feet out.....but I am not real good at judging distances so don't hold me to the 30 feet.

Good luck this weekend! Hope you and your son fill your stringers!!

Peace out...FDS

I might have to pick some of those nitro crawlers up myself.. The white ones look like giant maggots or grubs.

Beautiful fish. Thanks for the report. Cindy:Big Grin:

Thanks Cindy! Hope you're feeling better soon. Looking forward to meeting and fishing with you. We'll think tight lines for you until you can get back on the water!

Thank you for the post, very informative. I didn't realize the lightning trout were stocked on Tues, I figured they would go in on Wed. Nice looking fish, I hope to catch some this weekend.

All stocking is done on Wed, usually the evening. They may let fish go from the nets during the week but "officially" the lake is stocked on Wed. Sorry if my post was confusing in any way.

Ya thanks the pic's helped out a lot. Now I know how to rig them. We'll give it a try sat. night hopefully we can hook up on some lightning trout:LOL:

Good luck out there! We fished all day and all night Friday (report to come) and while we had a slow day the night was VERY good to me.

Great job! Man I am jealous you can fish anytime. I need to get out there but I can't find the time.:Sad::Wink:

Thanks Saint! We're missing you out there. Tax season is almost over so hopefully we'll be able to see you soon........or maybe you buy yourself a wi-fi card and start working from the shores of SARL! It's sad to say but I used to be an accountant at one time in my life and I actually do miss the busy season. Pretty pathetic life I have, huh?

[QUOTE=smokehound;311839]I might have to pick some of those nitro crawlers up myself.. The white ones look like giant maggots or grubs.

Thanks for the links Kev but unfortunately they don't have the glow in the dark version that seems to be the hot ticket for me. They have just about every color I've seen so far EXCEPT for the glow in the dark version. The white trout crawlers look identical but they don't glow in the dark unfortunately

Smokehound they have white crawlers that look like maggots as well as the white and the glow in the dark nitro crawlers. I thought that I saw the maggots also glow in the dark but haven't tried them yet.....just the crawlers.

The nephew and I also fished the Team 57 event Friday and stayed for the evening session. Great day/night of fishing and even better people to fish and hang with! Report and pics coming soon!
