I noticed that trout rods come in various height. What are the pros and cons of a longer trout rod vs a shorter trout rod? I was on Phenix's site, and from the looks of things, they make some sweet looking trout rods. Thanks!

i have one short rod 4'8", one medium 6', and one long 7'.

i like all depending on the condition. if your throwin jigs i recomend a 5'6" to a 8'.
other lures you can throw on anything.

I got a 5'6", a 7' and a 12'

not to mention others...

The 12' can double as a surf rod etc.

I got a 5'10" rod and 6'6" rod. If you want a rod you can use for pretty much anything go with something over six feet.

Two 8s, 1 7.5 footer, 1 5 footer and 1 7 footer. I prefer the longer rods over the shorter ones unless I'm fishing the streams. The longs ones can be used for all tasks.

7'6 for jigs and 6'6 for multi. The lighter the jig, the longer the rod is usually
how it goes.

I use my 5'6" for chuckin' lures, and I use my 7' for jigging and dropshotting.

I use 7 1/2 for drop shotting power worms and an 8 foot for mini jigging. These are custom rods that I make out of fly blanks that I wrap into spinning rods.

Thats the ticket for the mini jigs and jerk it baits ! I use a 6' , 6'6'' and a 7' . the 7' for mini jigs the other ones for lures and the dreaded jars of glitter crap that gets all over you and everything else..

My main rig is a 9 foot medium/light. I use that one for jigging, float & fly, worming, and small spinners/spoons, then I have a 5 foot ultra light for creek fishing, and a 6 1/2 light for bait fishing.

What is up with all the short sticks?
I can see a 9' or 10' could get in the way and be a PITA.
But 5' and 6' sticks? Why?
Please some one tell me?
I have one 5.5' 2-6lb stick. I hate it, I could not find a man size stick that was rated down to 2lbs in a moment of weekness.

So what's up guys?

Well, most people use the shorter rods for creeks and such where you can't
go around swinging a 7 foot rod. There are many longer rods than handle
2lb line perfectly if that what you're looking for. Shimano Compre, Daiwa
Spinmatic-X, G.Loomis trout rods, Phenix trout rods, Kencors, etc.

Exactly. It's hard to make your way through the underbrush around most local streams with a full length rod. I tryed a long stick once at SAR, and I'll never do that again. I got tangled in the trees so many times, lol.

I baitfish with my 5' Kenocors. I love the fight and can set hooks and cast without hooking the top on my boat. I use them in stream too. I use 6'6" for trolling and baitfishing/lures off the bow. Different strokes for different folks. I used to hate short rods, but now I love the fight on my 5'. I can also work fish around other poles, anchor and motor much easier.

I am almost sure Kencor makes a 7' pack rod that is 2-6 lb rated. Check the Turners in Orange. They had 2 or three of them around Christmas time.

As others have said before, the 5' rods are for creeks. You can use them for baitfishing if you want to have a good bendo factor.

Phenix 801 would be best. 8' and perfect for 2 or 3lb line! The Longfin should have some.
