Thats the second one I have seen this year. It comes from the Colorado River via the Duct system. I showed it to Jimmy and Marlon Mead and they told me the name of it . I am having trouble remembering the name of it . Dang it . I hate when that happends.

Thank you for the reply. So the irvine lake is getting water from Colorado river system.
And somehow this guy snuck into the lake. Maybe bigger fish could sneak in too I guess. :D

This is a logperch. http://www.cnr.vt.edu/efish/families/images/jpegs/logperch.jpg

The presence of these indicates good water quality. Percina darters do poorly in polluted water.

Very interesting, as i had no idea this lake had darters within.

Oh, and BTW, since this is from the colorado river system, it is a bigscale logperch

"Percina macrolepida"

You nailed it smokehound. WTG. :D
At first I thought it was like a fingering of yellow perch.
Anyway, it's a pretty rare finding. Does this mean our lakes are turning into natural lakes?

Far from that. Although this is a water quality indicator, it is also an invasive. It may be detrimental to the panfish or bass during spawning periods.

But heck, as long as that dang water is clean.

Ok guys , I just got off the phone with Jimmy ( Vine Asst. ) . He & Marlon both agree that the fish in question is a Tule Perch. Like I said this is the second one I have seen this year come out of the lake. When I first saw one for the first time I was excited. I had never seen one in 29 years fishing Irvine lake. Thanks for takeing the pic. and posting it.

But on a lighter note, tule perch are fascinating. The only known freshwater surfperch.

Are you kidding me? Those guys should know their fish, especially Marlon! A Tule Perch is shaped like a Bluegill with a tall short body. That Log Perch has more of a long thin body and it has the stripes. BIG difference! Look at this pic of a Tule Perch. Is that what you caught! NO. You did indeed catch a Log Perch, which by the way is not the first one I've seen caught there.
