Went to Lake Mission Viejo today for a trout tourney. This season the phrase fishing and not catching is also a tough one to comment on. What makes up for it is a free 4-hour boat rental but only on tourney days only. The fish have not left that swimbeach for months now and the lifeguards monitor it. The lifeguards have a new set of tools now for watching the swimbeach area. They watch you with binoculars and added a new PA system that you can hear ½ way down the lake. Boat #12 there is no casting into the kayak launch zone only portside to the red buoys. We fished the kayak launch zone the last 15 minutes and boat #12 was next to us. We were like WTF!!? A pa system now!?

Now to the fishing report. I gave a 4 hour boat rental pass for Simon and Howard to use. Simon was out of powerworms so he got a couple of packs from me. That pretty much saved his arse big time!! Simon and his buddy Howard were on fire today!! It was like an m-80 went off in the water and the fish jumped in their boat! The first stop in Market Cove went wide open for them with a double hook up twice. I caught 2 fish but the other fish came off the stringer somewhere so I lost 1st place in the blind bogey and ended 4th. Glenn caught 1 fish with garlic powerbait. Tom got the skunk off with a bass. My biggest fish a 3.80lbr up until the last minute when this teenager caught a 4.10lbr for a $30.00 gift card to Sport Chalet. Congrats to him! The blind bogey weight was 5lbs and the 1st place tourney winner was Simon. He picked up a $25.00 gift card to Sport Chalet. His buddy Howard placed and won a $10.00 gift card. It was a great day weather wise on the lake. When this weather warms those fish will cruise out of the swim area and go on a wide open bite in deeper water. The powermouse on a 2ft leader was the hot ticket and Simon can explain that part. My fish was on an inflated crawler with a 3ft leader on a split shot. No fish for any us were caught on retrieved lures. The tourney turnout was light too. Not much fishing pressure this year but the enforced rules and lifeguards can pressure your head and thought process on where to fish. The lake has over 30,000lbs of trout in it. We cruised the entire lake with the fishfinder and only seen bass on structure. No trout were seen schooling. Trying to find a place to sit and fish took patience because it was hit or miss. Simon has some more pics to share and where he fished. Simon and Howard did a great today. Hope you guys had fun!! After they came in for weigh in, the expressions on other anglers faces wise like what, where, what you use!!? Thanks for reading! Here are some pics.

The MVL trout season has been such a major disapointment this year. Atleast the lifeguards are REALLY guarding the LMBs food source. It is good they are protecting the trout so the have more dead fish to scoop up once summer comes!
