Daiwa Spinmatic. About $5 over budget, but a great value rod.
Whoops, you asked for a reel. For $30 you will be looking for a
Wal-Mart or a used setup.

Check out the new SHIMANO sedona 500 or 1000.i just got the 2500. Its a little more, than you wanted to spend . For the price around 59.00 ,there the smoothest good casting reel for the price,on the market, and a reel for life warrenty. I use to buy the cheaper reels ,but they wear out so damn fast, its better to go with the sedonas. I have the same ones now for 3 yrs from 750,1500 and 2500. Ive used them in the salt with no problems. Hope this helps.

For the price of $30, go on ebay and find yourself a Shimano Sedona or a Symetry 500 or 750.

I'll second that. I bought a jigging setup for Christmas and the Sedona was the reel I bought. Totally worth it. I've bought cheaper reels, like $20-$30 and they fall apart when you most need them. Not to mention that the drag is really good too.

Okuma Aveon is a nice reel and has been on sale at Walmart.com for $40. It's MSRP is $120. The 10 may be a little small unless you want a light setup.

Shimano AX1000. Some people don't like the Quick Fire, though. I used them for 20 years, before going to the Spirex.

Shimano Stradic Mgfb 1000 or Stella FD 1000. Expensive but worth every penny. I say, you get what you pay for.

Not neccessarily when it comes to the Stella. It's way overpriced. But I had one because I just wanted it and Shimano knows it. It's a luxury like a Mecedes 500.

If it was $200, then it would be worth every penny. For trout fishing when the most stress put on a reel is around 1lb of drag, the Sedona or Symmetre is all you need.

I took smithy99's advice and just picked up an Okuma Aveon 15 from the walmart website for $40. I just have to wait about a week and half to get it. Thanks for all the help.

The OP wants a <$35 reel and you guys are recommending $200+ reels.

Try looking around for an 08 Sahara. Many local sporting goods places are closing out 08 Shimanos.
