I've been looking at buying a new setup for the springtime to chase the bass. I really like the dropshotting, so I want to buy a nice rod and reel setup. I've been checking out the rods and it comes down to:

E21 Carrot Stix LTX:

E21 21 Carrot Gold Stix

Shimano Cumara

Team Daiwa Light & Tough

Once I get the rod I'll then decide what kid of reel to buy.

i can vouch for the 6'8" xf cumara. you could do a lot worse than a sustain 1000 on there too, but i don't think there's a bad rod in that bunch.

You'd do fine with the cumara....a 6'8" or 7'2" Shimano Crucial ML is also a great rod for dropshotting too....then you'd have extra $$$ to buy a sick reel....

My vote goes to a Cumara 6'8" as well. It matches well with a Shimano 1000 sized spinning reel.

I've got a 6'8 Shimano Crucial ML dropshot rod for sale. Would take $85 for it. Would save ya $100+ on the Cumara.

Let me know

Out of those choices, the Cumara wins hands down. It has great performance and I like the looks better than the others too. Somehow bright gold or orange just doesn't look good to me, as well as the fact that the normal carrot sticks use chrome inserts.

I custom built a Loomis Ds820 with REC titaniums and a split grip a few years back. Its my favorite rod for the light stuff. Light, nice light tip to feel the post front pressure bite on a small bait, and decent power. The factory rod is wrapped with nice Alconites, but they are a bit heavy for the blank and make it whippy. With the RECs I geta light tip with a nice fast transition into the butt. I fish in for small 3-4" baits on light weights and have whipped some fish in the 5 1/2-6lb. range on it without too much difficulty. But its not an ideal all around drop shot setup.
However, I recommend a Shimano Crucial 6'8" or 7'2" M DS setup for more general use. Youll get more use of a medium than a medium light, and its has about the same tip. I also love Dobyns, and will be upgrading to a 702XSF Champion series as my new general DS sometime this year. Powell, Lamiglas, Daiwa, and several other manufacturers also make a great DS rod. Go down and check each personally and find what you like. DS is a setup where comfort and confidence pays dividends
Pair it up with a 1500 or 2500 Daiwa or Shimano reel and your ready to rock. I love my Excelers, cant be IMO for the price and drag consistency.
