Shelley and I have been cooped up to long and decided to take advantage of a long weekend. I posted a message on the board about place to go. Since it was such a short notice our options were limited. Thank you to all that responded, we really appreciate it.

Our destination was Lake Cuyamaca just up the road from Julian. We packed up the trailer and fishing gear and hit the road early Saturday morning.

We had planned to stay until Monday morning, but the weather drove us out a bit early.

We arrived Saturday at around noon and we were welcomed with light to moderate snow falling as we approached our destination. It was beautiful! It seemed that the weather gods were on our side when we hit the campground as it stopped snowing for about a half an hour to let us set up the trailer and get situated.

We then decide that we would wait to fish until Sunday and drive back into Julian for some grub. After eating an early dinner we found "The Candied Apple". It was a small bake and pastry shop just as you entered town. They had the best peanut butter cheesecake I have ever had. Shelley and I split one between us and I think we started going into a cheesecake coma.

Sunday arrived and we set up to hit the water. I have fished in the rain, wind and hail, but not all at the same time. Yikes! It didn't take long for us to realize that we were going to have to save the fishing for our next trip. The wind was brutal and freezing, so back to camp we went. Shelley whipped up some pretty damn good chili to try to warm us up.

This is when we decided that we would be leaving Sunday night since the weather forecast was for more of the same on Monday.

All in all it was a great trip. Even without the fishing. The area was beautiful. The lake looked great. The lake personnel were very helpful and we definitely be back.

I would like to give a special shout out to Rich who helped us choose our destination. You hit it on the head when you suggested Lake Cuyamaca. We were impressed and it was just what the Dr. ordered.

Here are a few pics of the trip. Hope you enjoy.

The chili hit the spot. We had a bit extra but, not much. We saw Lakeview Terrace, enterntaining was worth the rent and then a movie I have had a block on forever. Oh Brother Where Art Thou.... Hmmmm.. I think I now know why I had a block on it. In my opinion, not worth the rent.

Thanks Arhtur. We tried to fish, believe me. I guess I have turned into a wimp in my old age. When my ears and fingers went numb I decided I had enough. LOL. :Cold Fishing:

Wow. Thanks for sharing the memories of that lake. I used to go there with my brothers and father and rent a boat. Then we would troll kastmasters and super dupers (rainbow trout color). Man we would slaughter them on this method especially in the conditions that you were in. But that was before they drained the lake and repaired the dam 15 - 20 years ago.

Thanks again.

Roy,

I'm glad you got a chance to see what Cuyamaca is all about. Sorry I couldn't make it up there, as you know, the weather was nasty. You definately need to come back out when we have better weather and we'll knock out some trout and some of the famous Julian Apple Pies!

See ya around!

Rich,
I can't thank you enough for suggesting this sweet spot. I can definately see us going up there again soon. I'm not sure how well I will do with the trout, but I can sure slay some of those apple pies.

I have been looking at the forcast ever since we left. It seems it has been snowing there quite a bit lately. You are right about one thing, we will be up there again and hopefully soon.
