MAN VS WILD
02-09-2009, 11:12 AM
Got to the Ranch at 5:30 and saw some cars turning around and leaving. Pulled up to the gate and saw a sign that said "closed due to weather". I was bummed out after driving an hour and 15min to get there plus I been wanting to fish here for sometime now. I call my buddy FishWhisperer and tell him the bad news as he was supposed to meet me up there. We decided to go to Mojave Narrows but I needed to get my fishing license before we could go there. I went to Wal-Mart and picked one up. It's now 6:30 and I call up Mojave Narrows to get directions. I find out they don't open til 7:30. So in the mean time I decide to go back to Jess Ranch just to see if they were going to open up. I pull up and see cars parked out in front and the sign was taken down. Called up Fishwhisperer and told him come to Jess they are open today. There was only 4 cars in the lot. I was the third person in. Get to my spot and dropped one line in and started to jig another. 5 min and BAM! a big hit! Set the hook and the fight is on. Turns out it's a bass. Cool, first bass of the year. Toss him back in and continue to jig with no sucess. FishWhisperer rolls up about 10 min. later. I put a powermouse on one and pink power eggs on another line and within 15 min BAM! the fight is on again. This bad boy was putting up a good fight and did not want to get in the net. Finally land this big boy and he is a nice one. Jim "the rover" rolls up and says that's a nice one let's go weigh him and get a picture. We go to the office and the trout ended up weighing 4.8 officially. He lost a lot of roe on the way to the office he probably could weighed a little more. Back the the hunt. The bite was pretty steady for me as I pulled in a 3, 4, 3.5 lbers in the next 2 hours. They all had full tails and did more tailwalking than I have seen a real tailwalker do. These are the hardest fighting fish I have ever battled with. By now it's 11 and i got 4 fish on the stringer. 2 came on pink powereggs and 2 on a powermouse. Fishwhisperer got a fat 4 lber and a lean mean 2.5 lber that put up a hard fight. It went kind of dead for me after the 4th fish and now the dark clouds were moving in and the wind was really blowing. It's getting really cold now and to top it off I got my foot wet trying to pull in my 4th fish and my foot is freezing. So I decide to go to the deadly split shot powerworm in pink. 2 cast and BAM!! The fight is on. After a long battle we finally net him and it's the biggest one of the day for me. He went 5.2 officially. 12 noon and I got my limit. Time to head home and get warm. FishWhisperer ended up with 2. powerworms and jigs were the hot ticket today. I saw a couple of guys kill it with that powerworm and there was a 12 pounder caught on a jig today. Not really crowded today. We fished the logged shore on lake 3 but we haerd thet the other lake was hitting too. if your looking for quality fish you definitely want to check this place out. Keep in mind they are only open Friday, Sat and Sunday and stock every Friday. That means when they open on the weekend these fish are hungry. It's a drive out there but well worth it.
Thanks for reading.

Exactly. Best thing about Jess it's only $17. If you want quality fish out of a pay lake Jess Ranch and LNL are the places to hit right now.

Yamafish, She is doing good and did snap a shot for their website. I was hoping to see you up there. Your the one who gave me the inside info on this lake and I've been hooked ever since. Thanks

If your looking to snap that skunk hit this place up. The fish have full tails, beautiful colors, fight hard and the water is super clear even after all the rain. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is 2 good size lakes to fish. I have never seen it get really crowded. Plus it's only $17. Well worth the drive.

I think it would be a good lake to hold a Team 57 event. Lots of space and a grassy area with bbqs.

Thanks to all for the replies. If anyone wants to check this place out I'm always up to go to the Ranch. P.M. me. Let's do it.

That's was up right thar!

I love that lake! People don't get confused. It is a pay lake but it's not shooting fish in a barrel. That's why they have the "skunk pond" your friends or kids are guaranteed to set the hook at least once for your $17.

For me, this year, with my budget it is Jess Ranch or Bust when it comes to Freshwater Pay lakes.

I heard the panfish action is hot in the Summer if you can stand the heat:Secret:

Great Post and Report MVW
Sorry I couldn't make it!
