DavidE,

From what I read (mexfish reports & other online reports from other boards), it's morning yellows at the 240 spot, and (I assume) the north side of the volcano in that bay area outside the kelp line. The usual bottomfish (bacalao, rojos, viejas, chocolates, cabrillas, and rocotes of all kinds etc, etc...) at the usual highspots.

It looks like a couple reports recently actually picked up a stray WSB here and there, but they were at the mouth of the bay from what I can tell. Chasing exclusively for them right could easily leave you skunked at the end of the day.

Will be down there with some FNNers in exactly 22 days! Hopefully the fish Gods will smile upon us and give us a nice flat day of fishing.

Right on. Thanks for the reply!!

Looks like I'll be down there the Friday before you guys. We'll be fishin on my buddies boat for a couple days and we're starting in San Martin and fishin there all day Saturday. Then working north to be back in SD Sunday night.

Hopefully we'll get some love from the fish gods and flat seas would be good too !!!

Later !!

Hey David,

Looks like you guys are trailer-boating down there. Does your buddy have the bay GPSed. If not then he may want to hire a guide to maneuver out of that shallow bay.

I usually fish the northwest side of San Martin Island and troll just outside the kelp. Rapalas have always been the hot ticket around that island!

Good luck and I look forward to reading your report.

DavidE,

What DeanH says is so true. Unless you guys know the bay very well, get yourself a guide. Going in an out of the channel is fraught with disaster especially if it is low tide.

One year we came up on a couple gringos in a 18ft valco where one of the anglers literally got ejected from the boat cause his buddy was haulin' *** and hit a sand bar on their way in the last bay.

PM me if you need a guide, I personally know a couple down there that I would very much recommend and would be around the $50 ish mark for the day.

Good luck out there! Will be definately looking for your report!!

What up Dean !! We're going on Bryan's boat so I don't think we'll be fishin too shallow ... Hopefully we'll get some of the fast swimmy kind that Sansou was talking about!!

Sansou I'll let my buddy know about the sand bars in the bay ... How deep are the rockfish spots?? I hope its not as deep as Colonet. 500 ft wind and grind is not fun !!!

How's the temp down there? Hopefully you guys will have warm temps, calm seas, and well vested in dramamine if the waves kick up.....

Yea Bryan called and asked if I wanted to go ... I was like "Hell ya" then I was like "wheres that??"

Anyways we leave next Friday at 4pm from Seaforth and supposed be back around 7pm on Sunday. Everything included for $250. He's taking his dad and some of his dad's buddies. I think it may be their fishing club or something.

We should hook up sometime and get out with him ... (Before the August trip)

What type of Rapalas work best for you?? What depth do you run them??

Boy- What a deal! You must be up there on the list!

The rapalas we used with success were the dorado colored ones. Not sure of the serial number but they were the next to largest ones and were trolled at about 3 feet deep. We saw another boat hooking up on the troll numerous times while we got nothing so we went over and bummed a rapala from them and it was game on after that!!

Good luck. I wonder if Annie and Simon will be working or have they moved on?

.....whaaaaat?!!!! well aint that just swell....

after i booked this trip, i spent the past week recruiting my girlfriends to come along too.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/DSCN1479-1-1.jpg

as you can tell, they are very shy and were apprehesive at first. but photos from one of the pre-excursion tailgate parties convinced them that other anglers would be a lot of fun.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/gay-pride-1.jpg

so we just got done shopping, organizing, and getting a few things packed together for this little trip. we were all excited and ready to go.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/crew.jpg

we even told all our friends about this exciting trip and they wished us good luck fishing.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/bushcrocs-1.jpg

now, at the last minute, i get a message saying this experienced captain is intimidated by a little foul weather....
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/Hurricane2.jpg

i dont get it. it's just a little rain...and rain is water...and we're in a boat on the water.......soo what's the big deal?
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/374a0bec.jpg

i have my own suspicions about the real motivation and reasons for this sudden cancellation.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/dirtygirlfishing/sexyship.jpg

but if the captain is sticking to this story that "safety" is the reason for the cancellation, i will graciously accept this excuse.

Ah man....I knew you were excited to try this type of fishing out too!!!

In a nutshell, that's winter rockcodding though... Be happy you are not on a boat for 3 days in the middle of snotty weather! That could be rough!

DG,

I was on that boat a month back heading to Colnett when the skipper stopped short(9 miles) because of some Santa Ana winds. We didn't understand it but we went with it and ended up having a good time, but we didn't even get a chance to fish for yt.
