April 18th the set date for Flathead fever one at the Colorado River. Meeting place will be at Cibola Camp site. Same site as the Canal Expeditions site. Anglers can fish in boat or canal for this event. This will be a tournament. $25 dollar fee for this event including big flat and big channel (20 dollars for big flat, and 5 dollar single fee for biggest channel). This event will last until 8am Sunday morning for weigh in and distribution of prizes and money. No team event, just individual. Team events will be in an earlier and later events I will host.

Big flat will be broken down into 1st thru 3rd place. Single big channel will be biggest channel takes all.

I am working on sponsors for this event and also have some secured. Will announce them when they are all on deck. If anyone else wants to help out with sponsorship please contact me. Also there will be a seminar on how to target Spring time flats to be given at meeting point at 8am. Also how to target bait and keep them alive.

This is your chance to learn how to catch flatheads and also have fun in a tournament. Plus the weather is not too hot either. Again participants can use either boat or shore. Both are easily accessible from Cibola. More details to follow soon. If interested please post your intent. Thanks in advance.

There are two locations of Cibola I found that out during the last meeting.

We will be meeting in California off HWY 78. Coming from Los Angeles you would take interstate 10 to hwy 78 which is before you enter the town of blythe and make a right on hwy78. Continue pass the town of Palo Verde and after about 2-3 miles you will see a sign that will say Cibola camp refugee. Turn left and continue on dirt rd. Venture to your right and take dirt road on left and you will run into camp.

Welcome to FNN. Your post came out fine.

I actually host 3-4 events a year at the Canals and river. I will also have a tournament in June and also early August. Might even hold one in the fall depending on interest. Catfishing is what I do and what I love. Panfish and ocean as well but catfishing first.
Look forward to seeing and talking to you. If you may have additions let me know.

Brian.

Recieved your message,I'll be there with 2 friends should we bring bait or will we make it there? I was in a truck accident and need to have areas to set up camp and relax in a coleman chair. Think I can find a good spot? I would really like to find spots to fish out of my boat I have a Smokercraft 162 Pro Mag with all the bells and whistles on it, but I'm not familiar with the area and need to know where to launch at a decent ramp. Thanks Low Dsrt Jon

You can make bait there. Also purchase goldfish. Some like to bring there own but sometimes the local shop have fat goldies to use.

There are a few areas where you can set up at so access is not that big of a problem wether you will bank fish or fish froma boat. Cibola has a good launch ramp. That is the same area we will meet at.

Too early to project if I can do this overnight. All of my trips to Blythe have been day trips. I haven't been able to do an all nighter since I began raising this cool kid I have in my house. I have my permission slip on the table and will make an extra Valentines day attempt to get it signed. :Embarrassed:
Brian, I'll hit you up closer to this date to get more info/confirm etc.
Also, I'm checking with Kev when he gets back in town. We both want to fish with you.

Thanks everybody for signing up. There has been a change of date for the flathead fever. The event has been moved to the 18th. Reason being for the change is due to a function that I do not want to interfere with on the 25th. I am sorry for the inconvenience and surely hope you the participants can still make it. If you can not make that date I do understand and I am truly sorry for the inconvenience. Location grounds is same location. Thank you very much for showing interest. Any questions feel free to pm me or contact me at bluehunter1100@sbcglobal.net. If the date is not good for those who signed up please let me know , also tell your additions about the change as well. Thanks in advance.

Hey Bluehunter, some friends and I were planning a trip there but had not yet set a date, sounds like the perfect opportunity.

Haven't been back out there since I was a kid. I'm looking forward to seeing the river again. Could possibly be 10+, hope there's enough room. Will advise all to post their intent. Looking forward to meeting some of you from this site.

Hi Bluehunter, My son and I were at the oxbow campground last week. We just caught some bass. The area looks fishy. We drove around and checked out the cannals I think we found a few nice spots. They were rebuilding the launch ramp. At the rate they were going it should be done by the 18th. We look foward to meeting you all.

Get together coming up soon guys. look forward to seeing you all. Signs of flats are showing with some up to 63 pounds lately. Made way pass Blythe the other day on my rd trip to Ga and it was windy all the way to pass Dallas, Texas. Hopefully the wind is gone in a few weeks. Any questions give me a holla. Thanks flatman see ya around.

Thanks scott. You have a good time up north and see you soon. We can roll on the river on a boat or bank and get into some action soon.

Everybody else make sure that you bring a panfish rod for making bait. Have some crawlers and mealworms available. There are tilapia holes and bluegill holes that we can make bait at. I will take you all to bait spots and bank fishing spots if you so desire. There is also two locations for purchasing goldfish one in palo Verde and another one in the town of Blythe.

Bring heavy action rods with 30 to 40 pound test at least. Bring a 5 ounce or 6 ounce no roll sinker, torpedo sinker, or sliding sinker. Bring a swivel to tie up carolina style. Bring 8/0 to 10/0 J's or circle hooks. Also is you can get a hold of kahles hooks, bring them. Bass Pro Shops have them along the way. Get those in 10/0 size or 9/0. They are my prefered hooks for gills especially the big gills.

I am here to help you all out and get you into some flatheads so see ya there. Flatmasters 3 coming in June - Mayflower.
