Next Trout Stocking - Monday, February 9, 2009. Thousands of pounds of Rainbow trout 8-12+ lbs and 2,000 lbs of Emerald trout in the 2-4 lbs class will be stocked!
Fishing this past couple of weeks has been awesome. Huge fish where planted on the last stocking, up to 8 lbs. The rainbow trout have been hanging out in about 10 ft of water about a foot of the bottom, 10-12 inch leader.
The baits that have been working best are night crawlers inflated with garlic oil, garlic flavored power bait, rainbow, chartreuse, dark green, sherbet and pink lemonade power bait. Power worms in the orange glitter, chartreuse and bubble gum color.
The best fishing has been from a boat in front of the little island, three pipes the flats and in front of the dock at the bubble hole. Anglers from the boats are reporting full limits.
The best fishing from shore has been at the launch ramp and the point. The best fishing has been in the early morning and later afternoon after the heat of the day.
Evan Reed from Laguna Niguel landed a huge 10 lber in the creek inlet using chartruese power bait. Evan had a 22 pound limit for the day.
Kevin Kelly and family from Placentia had an awesome day of fishing. They landed limits fishing the point using sherbet power bait with garlic scent.
Charles Morfin from Riverside landed a nice 6 lber from a boat in the flats. He was using orange power bait.
Larry Mullen from Hacienda Heights had a limit ranging from 5.4 – 3 lbs. Larry was fishing from a boat using dark green power bait and night crawlers.
Fly fishermen have been doing well in the flats. The olive and gold and black and silver midges are the best baits this past week.
